The climb up is very steep with uneven terrain. Wear good shoes and watch your step. A week or so before our arrival in Athens, we saw on the news that they were limiting visitors and you had to buy your tickets in advance, which we did. Once we got there, we couldn't believe the throngs of people that were also in our time slot. The stairway to the very top was clogged with what seemed like hundreds of people and it seemed like it was going to take us 30 minutes or more to get up there but it moved quickly. That was all quickly forgotten once we got to the top. It is a beautiful site and the pictures we took are breathtaking.

As expected, a very busy site to see. Definitely recommend seeing it during just before and during sunset if possible, absolutely breath-taking. We were able to see the Acropolis from our hotel rooftop, but seeing it up close was amazing. If it's the first time you're going, I suggest going with a tour so you can learn and understand the understated history that they share with you. Only downside is there is currently restoration work on most of the monuments in Athens, including the Acropolis, so it was not as beautiful to see from one side of the structure. Otherwise, definitely worth seeing.

Going through the Acropolis and its hillside was breathtaking. Seeing certain places up close was a highlight of my trip. However I will say that it is not for everyone as you are climbing through the hillside on the way to the Parthenon and temple of Nike at the top, so it you are not one for hikes or inclines be warned. If you are, the views are breathtaking and taking a moment to relize how much history has gone on in the area you are walking through is very eye opening. If you are able to when in Athens, highly suggested.

Very scenic and historical. After reading many reviews we followed other travelers advice and entered near the Dionysius museum. The path/climb was not very strenuous. The line at the ticket office was short. We chose to go early-mid afternoon to avoid the cruise ship tours. It was warm-mid- high 80s F. The only bottle neck was near the entrance to the Parthenon. There weren’t many areas that we were at a standstill but just a slower pace at the stairs. I can imagine how miserable this would be in the heat of summer. The whole Acropolis is very scenic and historical. There is more to see than just the Parthenon. The Parthenon is still under reconstruction and so portions have scaffolding. Pictures are still beautiful and the scope of renovation is just amazing. Of course there will always be plenty of visitors and those taking selfies that take too long. But with a lot of patience and park bought water ( you can’t bring your own) it is worth the visit.

Yes the acropolis is a fabulous place but not for everyone. I’m 64 and I struggled in places as it’s uneven and slippery. It was so busy and hot when we visited….luckily I was on a tour which was very informative. There were lots of people pushing and shouting. I would say try to visit when there’s no cruise ships in. However I did manage to climb to the top and it is a spectacular view.

This is the best reason to visit Athens and the place is famous across the world. We decided to go for an early visit as they have started to have timed slots now due to the numbers of tourists who want to visit this historic site. We made our way to the top and spent an hour or two exploring the different temples and then made our way down the south slope to see the theatre of Dionysius and the various other sculptures on the way down It's an incredible place to experience and I'd recommend that you visit

One of the most iconic ancient ruins of the world. Must see but be prepared of a lot of steep walking. Saw older gentleman fell. Please be careful. Expect crowd and we went on supposedly slow season. They can improve on their system a lot of people was cutting in-line like “families” a bit disorganized. If you can ignore people acting ignorant then just try to enjoy the place.

As an art history major in college I can't believe I'm saying this: I enjoyed looking up at the Acropolis with the Parthenon from down below vs. crawling up steep grades with thousands of tourists to reach the summit. The Acropolis Museum is where the majority of the artifacts are stored and we thoroughly enjoyed that tour. The only thing I got out of the hike up was just bragging rights to say I did it. Could have taken a pass on that and just enjoyed it as the view from our hotel rooftop bar/restaurant! Also to be noted, there are thousands of tourists up there and scaling the mountain. The most people (hordes, really) that i've subjected myself to in decades.

You need to get here early!!! You may have seen the record crowds this past summer. They were not lying. We were here at the end of June and it was crazy. We opted to get there early as our hotel was close. One person in our party got in line for tickets (you cannot get early morning tickets online unless you have a tour) and someone else got in line for entry. Tour guides were buying tickets too, so make sure you don’t get behind one of those tour guides. This happened to me (she cut the line) and I had to wait while she ordered like 50 tickets. Getting in early also allows you to avoid the heat (especially in the summer). It’s much nicer in the morning and a tad less busy. After we left, we headed over to the Acropolis Museum.

The first place everyone wants to visit. This is the Parthenon and the Acropolis. The greatest monuments of western and eastern civilisation is located on this cliff. We had an evening view of the Parthenon from the Acropolis museum dining restaurant. The food was wonderful. A view, you will never forget.
