Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Church of the Holy Apostles is located inside the Athenian Agora. Immediately, you can see that it belongs to a completely different time in history. Unlike all the other structures which belong to ancient times, the church was built around the middle of the 10th century, over the top of an ancient nymphaeum.
Although it’s the newest building here, it’s still one of, if not the oldest, church in Athens and is very similar to the 12th century Panagia Gorgoepikoo church beside the Cathedral.
Only a few buildings inside the Agora are still standing. Together with the Temple of Hephaestus and the Attalos Stoa, this is one of the best preserved.
The facade is decorated with ornate and detailed stonework, double arched windows and a six sided dome. It’s only small and that, combined with contrasting patterning of the brickwork and mortar made me think a gingerbread house.
It is near the Attalos Stoa but is set apart a bit so you have to walk over to it, then double back to the main path that runs alongside the Middle Stoa.
TICKET TIP: The combo ticket is very good value. It includes entry to both the Ancient Agora and the Acropolis as well as 5 other sites. At €30, it is well worth it (entry to the Agora on its own is €10 and the Acropolis is €20). It is worth noting that in winter, most sites are half price so the combo ticket is not such good value then.

You must purchase your access to Ancient Agora to reach this building.
Only a few building are still standing on the premise of the Ancient Agora. This one is one of them and you can also step in to look at the walls that was restored in 1956.
It is a small, distinctive 11th century church among larger structure on the site. However, today, you get a better idea of the cachet of this historical building due to the restoration work.
There are many beautiful churches in Athens, we can’t stop at each of them. While we were on the Ancient Agora site, we opted to look inside and we were not disappointed.
We took the combo ticket that allowed us to visit this site along others: Roman Agora, Hadrian’s Library, Temple of Olympian Zeus and Acropolis. If you already have your ticket, skip the line.

This church looks quite ordinary for the outside but inside it is wonderful. It's very dark inside but that just adds to it's charm as it's laden with gold leaf on a majestic looking altar. Each side is adorned with lots of murals and the gold leaf chandeliers are exquisite.

This church, located close to the Stoa of Attalos dates from the very late 10th or early 11th century. When we visited on 12/16, it was closed and we were unable to enter. It is situated atop the Nymphaion from the 2nd century AD. It is the only surviving mediaeval monument standing in Athens.

Gorgeous at night. Impressive lighting, so glad to see while driving past on way to The Plaka for dinner.

A 10th century church located in the Agora of Athens and built on an ancient Roman temple. Unfortunately, there are few icons left, but the visit is well worth it.

After you visit Stoa of Attalos, go down and you will see this small ancient church. It is build in roman style and is a perfect representation of most buildings of those period. Obviously, as it is related to christianity era, it is more "modern" than other buildings there.

Located in the Ancient Agora, this tiny church is a delight. Some of the lovely frescos have survived-and been somewhat restored
Quiet and peaceful, it is near the top of the Agora. Step inside and just feel the history. No seating inside, but lovely benches in the shade outside.

The little charming Church of the Holy Apostles, can be found within the Ancient site of Agora.
It stands near the southern entrance almost next to the Museum, (Stoa of Attalos) and was partially built over an ancient Nymphaion from the Roman period dating to the 2nd century AD.
It was originally built in the early 10th century to commemorate, St Paul's teaching within the Agora.
Within the walls, contain some fine Byzantine frescoes, although these have not been restored and are very weathered and damaged.
