Top ways to experience Gazi
The area
Neighbourhood: Psirri / Gazi
Side-by-side neighbourhoods Psirri and Gazi provide some of the city’s prime nightlife. The almost claustrophobic streets of Psirri feature an interesting blend of original small businesses with the restaurants, cafés and bars that have recently sprouted up. The central artery of Agion Anargiron Street has lively places to eat or drink. Further west, you can visit the peaceful ancient cemetery of Keramikos, then cross busy Pireos Street to find yourself in Gazi. With the huge Technopolis performance and art complex converted from old gasworks at its heart, you really have to come at night to appreciate this maze of bars at its best, although a daytime stroll will allow you to admire the excellent street art.

This is a small area for university students to hang out. Very hippie and trendy bars are located here. Funny enough, when we came here, we didnt see a lot of heavy drinkers around. A lot of people drank coffee, tea and water even though it was past midnight.

There are a lot of good restaurants around but if you prefer something cheap, i suggest the joint Myplate. It has one of the best gyros and they do double gyros which means two pita bread instead of one. They even have free wifi. Table water is free too!

Or you can have 1.99 euros hotdog at the corner shop. Overall i will definitely go back again and will highly recommend this place to my friends

This is the Fun Party area of Athens, Its an old industrial area turned into clubs, chic restaurants and bar area, along with regular clubs there are several gay clubs and a really great well kept gay sauna too (Alexander Sauna). underground from Syntagma square drops you smack dab in the middle of this area. the most imposing building in the area is Technopolis, the old Gas Works station nowadays converted into an industrial museum (a museum that unfortunately I didn't have time to visit)

The Bars look okay, the people are very young, hundreds of little greek teens on Bikes everywhere, went on April 2012 Easter night, was not impressed, left after 30 minutes back to Monastiraki TAF (The Art Foundation) Pub which was amazingly cool!

Ended up in Gazi when a taxi driver convinced us it was the best nightlife in Athens. Disappointed would be an understatement. The most pricey, pretentious, tourist-hating area we came across in our week in Athens. If you like posing and paying through the nose for drinks this place is for you. We preferred the chilled out, welcoming vibe in Plaka.

I saw Gazi as the symbol of Athens finally gaining ground on the scene of the trendiest European cities.
It's not just about the impressive numbers of restaurants and bars, but the whole picture made of people, art galleries, innovative design, street forniture, trendy condominiums and much more in a continuous "work in progress" feeling;
what makes it really special is what makes Athens itself so special: the heavy contrast which hit your senses at every corner.
Old and new, traditional and modern, dirty and glittering, abandoned and renewed....and noisy trains running 1 meter away from your posh drink :)
Forget the fake atmosphere of "jewel" neighbourhoods ang get a taste of real urban life. I loved it!!!

Gazi is an isolated district in Athens. I had seen it on the Travel Channel and thought it looked like a nice place to go. Boy, was I wrong!!!! The only thing to see in Gazi was rundown warehouses, hundreds of stray dogs chasing cars, and a walk along a highway to get there. I only went to go to this one restaurant, Mamacas, which ended up being closed. Gazi is not a good tourist destination and no one should ever go to Gazi.

We went there on a saturday night to go out at the clubs,. On the streets its pretty lively but at the clubs, most people just sit there and drink. Not much dancing occurred. In fact pretty much everyone just sat there and drinked a lil bit. Maybe the club scene isnt what we're used at like in the Netherlands.

We we're hoping since the day before we went to the clubs (bars) at Glyfada that it would be more living at the clubs in Athens, but unfortunately we were wrong.

This neighborhood is about 10 minutes cab ride from the center of Athens. It is a strip filled with bars, restaurants, and clubs. I ate dinner at one of the restaurants here. The food and the service were great. People are friendly here. This is where tourist and locals meet for a good night. I went to a Latin club here right on a corner. They play Latin music: Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata and also have live music. A woman gets on the stage to sing Latin music. Everyone dances here. The atmosphere is very lively. The club is open with seating outside. I had a great time here, especially because I am a Latina. But it is suitable for anyone. I met and danced with a Belgian guy there.

Dirty, scary and looks like small Eastern European village, Monastiraki's night life is much more vibrant, interesting and foreigners friendly:)

A Greek friend took me last Saturday to Gazi. It took some time to find parking, and it does requre some walking around, but this place is SO ALIVE at night, with all the café's, clubs, restaurants, people. We ended up in gazArte club/lounge/gallery/concert venue, packed with people, with live performance of Eleftheria Arvanitaki (rem. Athens 2004 Olympics closing ceremony).
In general, as Greeks are some of the most approachable people I have ever met, take a stroll around Plaka, have a frappé, and ask people of your age what they would recommend you should experience and where. I've just finished a 2-week tour of the Cyclades & Athens, and relied on advices of bartenders, receptionists, taxi drivers - and had fantastic time !
