You will be taken back by this place. Ticket also includes a free audio guide and you walk around to the different points. So much to learn. Amazing that the quality of the stadium is still so good. It hosted the 1st ever modern olympic games.

This well preserved 6th century BC 'Panathenaic Stadium' in the center of Athens can be reached on foot, sightseeing-bus or car. It's really worthy to visit, and when you are standing in this huge, historic structure with it's grand past, one may suddenly feel very tiny and may even sense a kind of humbleness. It's a location that can be... More

The original stadium of the very first Olympics! What else needs to be said? Will you spend hours here? No! But if you walk a bit in athens you will pass it. Take a few minutes to look and think of the true meaning...

You can view this from the hop-on bus, or stop and explore. We were fortunate that it was on our way into town. Worth a hop-off!

It feels kinda special to be in this >2500yr old stadium that hosted the first modern day Olympics. Entrance to this stadium that was built into a mountain is 5E and includes a nice audio-guide. The small museum with a collection of olympic paraphernalia is worth a visit, too. For people that like to run themselves, there is a 0,9... More

Being able to run at the sight of the first modern Olympic games is life changing. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and enjoy the torch exhibit.

The revival of the modern Olympics took place in this magnificent stadium in 1896. Visit to get the ambiance.

Staying in Pangrati

Neighbourhood Profile
Pangrati
The elongated Panathenaic Stadium, built for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, acts as grand gateway to the otherwise purely Athenian neighborhood of Pangrati. This area of typical small squares, busy main roads and residential streets will give you a clear sense of what living in this metropolis is like. A walk up quiet Markou Mousourou Street on the west side of the stadium will bring you past the First National Cemetery to Mets, home to many expats. Turn right to reach the charming Platia Varnava. East of the stadium, commercial Eratosthenous Street leads to rather nondescript Platia Plastira, from where Effranoros Street continues uphill to Platia Profiti Ilia, crowned by a huge church. Among the standard four- to six-story apartment blocks that typify Athens, Pangrati also boasts some genuinely authentic tavernas and the odd trendy bar.
