A beautiful area for a stroll just a stone's throw from Parliament. See how many special structures you can find. Maybe pick up a fallen fruit or two. ;) Plenty of benches to sit and ponder or people-watch.

The walk through the National Gardens is an outstanding experience. The gardens are open to public from the morning to the tale evening. They are a mistical place, with lots of small corners to wander around. For children, there's even a mini zoo there. Adults can find numerous romantic spots and charming paths.

The gardens themselves are a vast and unexpected size given the city's arrangement. There are fountains, mainly trees and shrubs interspesed with a miriad of walkways and quiet corners. Equally intersesting in the cool of the evening when the rest of the city can be quite hot escepially in High Summer.

Pleasant walk away from a really busy city, once inside the gardens the city's noise is gone. Lots of places to sit and only 1 coffee shop. The gardens themselves are pretty average just lots of trees......no pretty flowers not one fountain is working hardy any birds.. Try and go to a toilet before hand as they are incredibly dirty and... More

The National Garden (formerly the Royal Garden) is a public Park of about 15 hectares, in the very center of Athens. It is located directly behind the Greek Parliament Building (The Old Palace) and continues to the South towards the area where the Zappeion Hall is located. By the way, it has to be noted that the Zappeion was utilized... More

We didn't walk the whole garden as it is massive, but even towards the end of November it was still a beautiful place to visit, and amazingly peaceful for somewhere in the centre of Athens. If you like walking and greenery, with a few sculptures thrown in, this is a great place!

The National Gardens are a lovely place to spend time walking, running or just sitting on a bench. There are so many different plants and trees, the lanes are nicely designed and the overall atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxing. What I enjoyed the most was walking through the gardens after finishing the Athens Authentic Marathon at the nearby Panathenaic... More

The layout and variety of plants and trees is lovely. There's a small enclosure of animals such as birds, goats and rabbits. A little sad to see two of the geese needed medical attention on their wings. There is a children's playground and children appeared to even just be happy walking around amongst the trees. A beautiful park. Worth a... More

Staying in Syntagma

Neighbourhood Profile
Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
