Things have changed so so so much in 20 years since being there. My biggest complaint is I bought a set of luggage back then made of pig leather and while they still sell it....it looks completely different and cheap. So glad I bought some long ago.

Very touristic but nice to see. Many choice of restaurants. Don't miss special Brettos bar for glass of local wine or brandy. During January empty of tourists so different atmosphere.

Near Acropolis !!! The old Athens with beautiful houses , modern and classic place to eat lunch and dinner and to drink your coffee . Is good for walking and you start from Acropolis and to go until the Sindagma.

A visit whenever you want place - even late nights. Plenty of everything for tourists, including souvenir shops, bars, restaurants, etc. Romantic cobblestone streets, piles of things to do, good for singles, couples or groups.

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
