We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have travelled to food markets all over the world and feel the frustration of some of the stall holders when visitors like myself are not interested in buying, only asking questions. Here everyone was smiling and helpful and let me take lots of photos. I especially liked Epirus Tavern within it where we tasted the famous tripe and trotter soup. Delicious!

An incredibly vibrant and lively fish and meat market full of amazing produce..........the whole place is rocking with sounds and smells you would expect from this arena................

If I was a local I too would be buying my meat and fish here............really cool place to visit!

Monastiraki Square is a center of activity day and night.
One of the best places to buy just about anything is the Flea Market of Monastiraki. I wouldn’t call it a Flea Market on regular days though, but a Grand Bazar.

What to Buy?
Anything that looks interesting.

You never know what you will find especially on a Sunday….all kinds of stuff from junk to antiques!

The tiny shops contain everything from worry beads, furs, backgammon sets, toy evzone soldiers, ancient Greek bottle openers, Byzantine Icons, paintings, statues, handbags with the Parthenon on and so on.

You will find sandals made by Chinese factory workers or made right there in the shop and fitted exactly to your foot.

You can find all manner of jewelry, paintings, replicas of ancient artifacts, religious objects, musical instruments and wood carved objets d'art in the market. The usual tourist-focused T shirts, etc. are everywhere. But wandering around the market and heading uphilll and around toward the Acropolis museum, you can find small ancient churches, tucked away tavernas and lovely open-air restaurants to keep you happy for hours or even days as you window and gift shop.

Some of the shops here are cheaper than other places, so if you would like to buy souvenirs like fridge magnets and soaps, you can buy it here

The market was a fish and butcher shop only. I had read reviews that mentions nuts and spices. There were very few around the outside of the market. Lots of homeless on the streets. I’m sure the changes were due to Covid, but not a tourist attraction today.

When visiting a new place, I always visit the wet market. Visiting markets makes you feel the people, what they eat, and how they interact. This is a seafood and meat market with a few restaurants. Make sure you try the tripe and cow foot soup.

Visited on a sunny Sunday and found it was really really busy so difficult to see the stalls and shops. On the other days it was more enjoyable. The tube station is also very busy so look after your valuables!
