Badminton Theater: from arena to proscenium theater - the sole venue of the 2004 Olympic Games to be viably transformed.

Badminton Theater, located in the park of the municipality of Goudi, Athens, originally built to host the badminton tournaments of the 2004 Olympic Games was re-opened in 2007 after a tremendous renovation to become one of the largest state-of-the-art theatrical venues in the broader region of the Southeast Mediterranean.

Situated on the edge of the center of Athens in park below Imitos Mountain, the original industrial facade is the only remnant of the 2004 use. The inside of the building was completely transformed by a group of people with extensive experience in theatrical arts and cultural events and hosts particularly demanding productions acclaimed for aesthetic values and worldwide recognition.

Badminton Theater, with its vast repertoire of both foreign and Greek productions, ranging from theatrical plays to musicals to concerts, boasts a record of over 1,500 performances since it's opening in 2007, has hosted over 4,500 artists from around the world and has been visited by more than 2,000,000 spectators! It is a focal stop for major international touring companies as well as the center of award winning Greek original productions.

One of the most stylish buildings that was created for the Olympic Games in 2004, the Badminton Theatre has been made good use of ever since. It's located in the Goudi Park in the centre of Athens, which makes it ideal for all sorts of events - and it's been prepared for that. It has been turned into a beautiful... More

Very good performance on ice from the Russian ballet! Seats are comfortable, parking is huge enough. The surrounding area is filthy and should be cleaned. It is close to the metro katexaki just 7 minutes walk.

The musical was fantastic for the kids and for us, the parents. We enjoyed the music, costumes, scenery, acting, singing everything was of high quality. The theater was very good but we had very good seats, at the front. I think the view from upper part of the amphitheatre will not be that good because of the big distance from... More

We witnessed the first night on Tour in Nea Makri Amphitheatre and it was fabulous. This is pure tragedy at its finest with spectators weeping, what a catharsis. Excellent ensemble, outstanding Electra which gives you the goosebumps each time she raises her voice, even if you don't understand a single word. Don't miss. Duration approx. 1hr 45min, no intermission.

The Badminton Theater is always a pleasure to visit. The variety of the performances, carefully chosen are always superb. The space is very interestingly done, the theater itself very comfortable and great visibility no matter where your seat is. I recently took some friends that were visiting Athens to Euripides Electra - they wanted a unique cultural experience - they got... More

The Badminton Theatre in Athens presents some amazing theatrical experiences. My mind was full of the production of Euripides' 'Elektra' for many hours afterwards. The chorus in my opinion stole the show, as excellentas the main actors were. Each chorus member had obviously been trained to a high level in drama, singing, and dance. The choreography was stunning. Breathtaking. The... More

I you are in Athens this summer, do not miss this chance to experience an amazing theatrical work. Badminton Theater has accomplished something exceptional in this production of Euripides Electra. Unlike most attempts to bring the unparalleled art of ancient Greek drama to the summer stages in Greece, this production absorbed me from the first moment. In the comfort of... More

I have seen many shows there, from celebrations of Greek and international culture, music and dance, beautifully polished theater, to Dialogue in the Dark, a moving, eye opening interactive experience. I have enjoyed each and every performance I have seen there. I highly recommend you stop in for a great show!
