Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Most visitors to Athens visit the Acropolis, the Acropolis Museum and the National Archaeological Museum, and these are magnificent. But tucked away in Piraeus is this wonderful gem of a museum. Piraeus has always been the port of Athens, but as it's not the glamour spot - Piraeus can be pretty grubby and soulless in places - it tends not to be on the tourist map.

But BECAUSE Piraeus was Athens' vital connection to the world from the 5th century BC on, much happened here - and this amazing gem of a little museum tells its story. Don't miss the Hellenistic theatre which is the museum's "back garden."

Take a taxi to the museum - traffic can make driving yourself a nightmare, and if you come down from Athens by Metro - still get a taxi - it's a bit of a walk.

This a beautifully laid out museum, with many well- preserved exhibits mainly from the Piraeus area. It is obviously much smaller than the National Archaeological Museum, but well worth a visit.

While we found little else worth seeing in Piraeus, this museum was definitely worth a visit. Lots of interesting artifacts and helpful people too.

This is an excellent museum and well worth a visit. We spent about an hour here.
Make sure that you visit the upper floor. The bronze statues are particularly impressive.

Went to this museum with my partner after reading about it online. The artifacts and displays were lovely to see. However, I imitated one of the artifacts on display, (a bronze man making a face) and the museum staff made a rude gesture, showing his disapproval. He did not say anything when I looked at him, but continued his conversation with someone else. I do not think posing like a statue is so offensive. The staff member needs to learn to have a sense of humour or go and work somewhere else. I did not also like being followed about from room to room, made me feel very uncomfortable. Best avoided.

We visited on a Sunday and initially thought the museum was closed. We approached from the exterior site of the ancient theater of Zea which is gated. There was no gate access so so thought the museum was indeed closed. We continued around to the front entrance and to our delight discovered it was open.
What a gem. Beautiful collection well displayed. The "guards" in every room and putside are very engaging. BTW I know some of the reviewers were put off by these wonderful "guards" but in these days of up close and personal selfies they are unfortunately necessary to protect these treasure that have survived but may not survive millions of tourists wishing to take selfies and not respecting these antiquities (sorry, rant over!)
Exhibits are quite unique, well preserved and very well displayed. The most impressive are the bronze statues found near the harbour of Piraeus in 1959. Take time to visit the exterior site. If you like cats you'll discover cat heaven. Lots of felines well looked after by museum staff.
If you're in Piraeus do take time to visit the museum. It's not a large museum (1-2 hours to visit) but so worth the time.

Small but very interesting. I was impressed with Museum collection unlike with what I saw in Acropolis Museum.

I enjoyed our visit to this museum, I didn't know it existed. The voicemap tour took us here. Great recommendation for the local perspective of archeology.
