Exploring Greece by seeing a different sighting! It's included by Unesco in the cultural heritage monuments! The monks with simplicity and humility welcomed us and talked us about the history of the monastery and their life. A unique experience that fullfilied us with positive energy!

Beautiful monastery, well preserved, with interesting explanations about the monks' life. Outside there are small souvenir shops (reasonable prices). Worth the stop on the way to Delphi. Dress code: covered shoulders (T-shirts or shawls are fine) and long trousers.

It is a lovely monastery, full of history. Take your time to visit it. And have a shop with nice and tasty souvenirs handcrafted at the monastery. The way to arrive there is not very simple but with a GPS you can find it.

It is apparently usual for the tour operators from Athens to Delphi to make a stop at Hosios Loukas. Well we drove ourselves and it was well worth it! Many - probably most - of the impressive sights in Athens and Delphi are from periods...More

We had time to stop here on our way from Delphi back to catch a cruise ship leaving from Athens that evening. We were very happy that we took the time. Hosios Lukas is a beautiful site that feels lost in time and wonderfully remote....More

I'd seen that this UNESCO site is close to Delphi. It's about a 40 min drive. Ossios Lukas is beautiful- elaborate gold-based mosaics decorate the main church. There are 500 year old paintings as well. The site is a working monastery.

You know you are in a heavenly place from the moment you drive up to the Monastery. The path leads to a walled Monastery with spectacular examples of Byzantine architecture! The views are also breathtaking! The crypt of Saint Barbara has the tomb of the...More

The GPS had a bit of trouble finding this place, but it turned out well because we entered on the side away from the tour buses. There is a lot about this monastery and the church that seems ancient and historical--all how they used to...More

The monastery was gorgeous. Views all around it that just take ones breath away. Shorts and revealing clothing are not allowed, but it's totally worth seeing :)

We were staying in Arachova and had a few hours to fill. Our hotel suggested taking a drive to the monastery to see something different. It's a beautiful drive through the countryside to get to the monastery. When we arrived, the ticket office was closed...More
