This small monument commemorates the battle in 480 B.C. in which a small band of about Spartan soldiers held off a huge Persian army for three days. The delay was long enough to allow for the successful defense of Athens against the Persians.

I was there a few times while I was taying in Kamena Vourla and went to Lamia. Clean place, nice monument. Always start to think about the great war there. Worth a visit.

A place so importante that we could say: the event that took place there shaped the history of the Western World. The place itself has only a not very imponent monument and a few maps with informations about what happened there. No structure (like toilets...More

The battlefield is here all around, and it is a must to find the stand with the historical map of the area. There is not a big crowd of other tourists, I think, so it is easy to study the site.

This monument contains the famous speech given by Leonidis and is a fitting tribute to the battle site. A moving scene.

I Enjoyed this visit very much. The 3D film they show you is helpful and also palatable for the whole family to get the gist of the battle and strategy involved. Visiting the site itself is also very interesting, in spite of the fact that...More

Leonidas was a man in his mid sixties when he led the Greek forces at Thermopylae. He wore sandals and armor. This statue of young, buff nude man, with a helmet, a shield without a Spartan device on it, no armor and no shoes, may...More

One of the most momentous battles in European history is acknowledged with a monument. The moment in history makes the statue more meaningful than many grander monuments. Very atmospheric too with the steaming thermal waters around about. Definitely worth a visit if you are going...More

Really just a simple statue with little else. Visit the nearby public information center presentation, then stop here briefly for a photo.

The statue of the real leonidas made famous by the 300 film. Only worth seeing on way to somewhere else. It is about half way between Athens and Meteora, so a good place to stretch your legs and have a little picnic. Along way from...More
