The site is located on the north coast of Ierapetra. We have about 50 houses, cobbled streets, central court,a Minoan palace and cemetery. These excavations are offering a nice view of the late bronze age. Last excavations ended in 2014 and will continue. On the...More

Doesn't compare to either Knossos or Malia Palati, but worth a visit anyway to see the general layout of a Minoan town. Not much there though, no cafe or toilet facilities.

I didn't fancy the crowds at Knossos so we visited the site at Gournia instead - and I'm really pleased that we did. €2 entry fee lets you wander around the remains of a Minoan village that must have been quite amazing in its day....More

Really good place to visit, normally on the way to or back from somewhere else. The site visit would not take more than a couple of hours. As someone else suggested worth looking the site up on the internet to get good background info. There...More

just a little way out of town on the old coastal road. Enjoy the overall impression of the site before going up and wandering around it at leisure. Absolutely amazing archaeological site

a bit like Skara Brae except you can actually walk on a Minoan street between Minoan walls and sit in a Minoan house, with noone else around.

Having paid your 3 euro and stepped through the gate it is time for your imagination to take over and envisage what it must have been like to live in a market town during the Minoan period some 1500 years before Christ. What did they...More

Walk through the main street of this ancient Minoan settlement and imagine yourself living by the sea over 4'000 years ago. It's magic.

Inexpensive entry, maybe 2€. A really ancient Minoan village, maybe 3500 years old. Set on a hillside with nice views. Had a walkabout, perhaps less than an hour total. Not much in the way of services or food and dtink.

I did not intend that question to be about Gournia. It was about a winery near Heraklion. I am having some difficulties as a new person to Trip Advisor. For instance, I am not from Australia but I cannot get it to change it... More
