I recommend booking a guide (available on-site). I "shared" a guide with 3 students and as luck has it- the guide was an incredibly well educated/informed archaeologist who walked us around key points, answered our questions and threw in some humour as a bonus. Much better than 'going it alone' as I've done previously at this site. A trip to... More

A good trip to find out more about the Minoan culture, quite a lot of the site is archeologically accurate but unfortunately, some parts are influenced by perceived ideas generated by the archaeologist's interpretation.

Reasonable prices Advice: bring your own drink abd snacks ands kiosk can be pricey Knossos is quite big area, take your time to explore You need to take the bus from town centre opposite hotel capsis near the taxis and is about 15mins with no traffic. This was June 2013. I got a guide and she was good. She talked as much as possible of the things around the site to avoid the line up for the throne room. It was teeming with people so a guide would be necessary to make it worthwhile. A lot of archeological sites are greatly improved with a good guide... More

I believe that there is nobody in the world who does not know the story of the Minotaur and Theseus and Ariadne's thread The Cretan civilization is one of the oldest in the Mediterranean, if not the oldest certainly the most advanced in terms of civilization. Just consider that they had the use of bathrooms with running water, which civil... More

However, we were very impressed by the scale of the site, and the variety of buildings which had been excavated. It also... More

Great place to wander around. We went round by ourselves which was fine. Easy to get to by bus from where we were staying in Heraklion.
