Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Don’t waste your time here. It is more likely to win the lottery than to find free parking spot or free umbrella.
There are just 2 coffees with very very limited capacity.
None of the staff is likely to engage with some coordination of the queue for the umbrellas so you may end up waiting the whole day. There are no tavernas.

Could be cool if you are in a big hotel, outside this, the most disappointing experience in Greece. The place is not quiet, but it is dead, many closed shops, looks difficult to meet anybody. The beach is not very clean especially for Crete, disgusting view of a electric plant. Empty bars, although there are few of them. Only good point you can leave easily with the bus

Ammoudara Beach is not the most scenic of resting spots. I wouldn't recommend visiting if you prefer places of natural beauty. The large, blue loungers and umbrellas ruin the atmosphere. The sea seemed rather unpredictable, life guards were constantly pulling people out of the water, even in the shallowest parts. It was a bit stressful as opposed to being relaxing.

A more layback relaxing beach. There's a section for the kitesurfers and a section for the swimmer. This is the windward side of island so water can get rough on very windy days. Much cheaper beach chair rentals and drink options than other beaches.

Extremely stony, in between coarse sand. Fracture edge near the shore. Not suitable for small children. Left view of factory towers and a littered river flows into the sea, right view of the big city of Heraklion. Lots of garbage and dog droppings at the access points, also garbage on the beach. The shoreline and the water itself are clear and clean, awarded with blue flag. Many sections with wooden planks and loungers where you can lie for free against purchase of tasting.
All in all, the worst beach to have holidayed on as ever, and we have seen a lot in Spain, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Egypt and also Greece. But this is our first time in Crete, maybe we expected too much. I'm just wondering what the tourist tax is used for when you can't even keep the sidewalks clear of trash and feces.

This beach was literally my back garden for the 10 day stay in Crete. I walked out the gate of my apartments and my feet touched the sand. It's a blue flag beach and kept immaculate. There are plenty of dining options right on the beach that offer sunbeds once you purchase something from the relative establishment. I was lucky that apartments has complimentary loungers so always had my beach comforts on point. There was a storm during my stay and a lot of debris washed up on the beach and for two days a tracker went up and down the beach removing it from the shoreline. The water is very wavy and crystal clear. Yes there is an electrical facility at the left end of the beach but unless you can only see the negative in life it is not an obstruction to be concerned with and actually makes for a cool night view with the lights and what not.

This beach is quite extensive and is very close to the capital. There is a connection between the beach and the city by bus. It is also a beach that has many places to have a drink and that rent sun loungers and umbrellas. Showers can be found to wash off the sand and salt when leaving the beach.
On the other hand, the water on the beach was not very clean, and you could find pieces of plastic, rubber and algae floating in it. The beach does not offer the fine sand that can be found on other beaches on the island, there are quite a few pebbles and access was a bit complex because there was a certain slope between the shore and the entrance to the water and the feet sank into that small slope. by stomping to get in or out without being knocked over by the waves.
Of all the beaches we visited in Crete, this was the one we liked the least. The only advantage of this one is that it was close to our hotel and there were many places to have a drink comfortably. It is not particularly pretty nor is bathing pleasant due to the dirt from the water and the small stones when stepping on.

We stayed in Ammoudara for 11 nights and visited the beach everyday. Our hotel had reserved sunbeds, although non residents were welcome to nice them if they bought a drink (I think this is custom in Greece).
There were plenty of cafes & restaurants on the beach
The beach and sea were clean.
It was windy on occasion, so a bit wavey too. Which was fun!
The beach is a mixture of sand and shingle. It's shingle and a bit stoney in the water, but this didn't stop our enjoyment.

The beach has a very small amount of sand, which means you will have to come early to get a sun hat. And it is not allowed to wear a hat that you bring from home.
The water is warm and clear. Great baths.
The bar service is very attentive and friendly. They come and serve us on the chairs.

Fine sandy beach, flat sloping, certain areas are private (hotels), in between always free areas. Water quality very good, very clear, bars and restaurants available. Ca. 50 m from the beach is concrete (?)/stone slabs to break any waves. There the sea curls all the more, which is especially fun with children. I can't confirm the warnings about sea urchins. Just saw her snorkeling further out. There are far better places to snorkel in Crete.
By bus (No. 6/10) you are at the beach in 20-25.

How far from the cruise terminals is it? Are hired drivers allowed near the terminal? Just out front? Is Oct still good for enjoying this?

Hi, how often do you take a bus from Agios Nikolaos to Amoudara beach?
If you are staying around Amoudara beach whether there are evening buses to Agios Nikaalaos and back?
Thank you!

J'ai lu qu'on pouvait pratiquer le naturisme sur une partie de la plage. Quelqu'un peut me confirmer ?
I hheard that we can be naked on a part of the beach. Someone does confirm ?
Merci / thanks

Je ne pourrai vous répondre précisément, d'abord il y avait en cette saison peu de monde et j'étais du côté de la centrale électrique.
Peut-être une partie de la plage est réservée pour le naturisme mais cela m'étonne.

I was wondering which is the best part of Amourada beach to say, am looking for cheapish hotel with pool but on or the beach where the sae is calm and nice sandy beach near to bars tavernas & bus stop
many thanks

if you are not interesting only for ammoudara near Ships Nikolai's I strongly recommend Bali beach which it has everything you ask for. Ammoudara is not always calm it depends on the wind direction each time

Han G. (You can take a public bus). Any advice on how to get to Ammoudara beach on a bus from the harbour / port area of Heraklion. We are in Heraklion for 1 day only and would like to go to the beach if getting there is not too complicated.
Written 17 April 2017
YES you can take the bus No 6 to Amudara-Hotels. This bus starts from the airport and travers all the Heraklion and goes to Amudara. It cost 1,70€.
