Upon entering the fortress you quickly realise how big it is and you could simply spend hours roaming around it discovering all the different bits. Amazing views from up there too.

I spent at least 2 hours going around this fortezza. Not many people pay the 4 € to be admitted inside of the walls, so it was pretty quiet and I really enjoyed this interesting place.
If you're in Chania, this is a must-see. It's hard to imagine what the Mediterranean was like when the Venetians held sway on the sea, but forts such as this enforced their supremacy.
