Upon entering the fortress you quickly realise how big it is and you could simply spend hours roaming around it discovering all the different bits. Amazing views from up there too.

Decided to visit the Fortezza on one of the less sunny days, and what a great decision that turned out to be! The place is HUGE, seriously, monumentally big! You can feel the history come to life with the still present (and used!) amphitheater, the...More

It is very impressive to be able to admire these kind of buildings which have survived so many years. Do not muss the chance!

Cheap entrance fee for a stunning piece of history (4 euros). Impressive fortress with wide views over the sea and city. It is easy to get a feel for the power this citadel would have projected over the area. Well preserved and lots of information....More

I spent at least 2 hours going around this fortezza. Not many people pay the 4 € to be admitted inside of the walls, so it was pretty quiet and I really enjoyed this interesting place.

If you're in Chania, this is a must-see. It's hard to imagine what the Mediterranean was like when the Venetians held sway on the sea, but forts such as this enforced their supremacy.
