If you are saturated with all the archaeological museums in the country and still have the energy for yet another museum, this is a good choice! This museum is a non profit private foundation, you can learn about the daily life of old Crete and many revolutions Cretans fought! This museum has certainly its charm and doesn't need more than... It's a rather small museum but has a lot of interesting items on display which give you a good insight on how life used to be on Crete. A lot of embroideries and craft supplies on the first floor, and information on professions such as shoemaking and a barber on the ground floor. Entrance fees are 4 euros and 2... More

Interesting and varied artefacts, from ploughs to photos to embroidery. A beautifully preserved room of hangings carpets and cushions all embroiled in Rethymo style.

This little museum is a tribute to the arts and crafts of a more rustic time. I really enjoyed the reconstructions of local shops - the barbers, saddles, coffee shop and coppersmiths. Upstairs, there were collections of pottery, weaving and other textile industries, including a family's tribute to their grandmother's love of embroidery. Her lounge was recreated and all the... Well laid out, cool inside and pretty garden outside. Amazed at the lace and embroidery and particularly liked the recreation of the sitting room where all the embroidery was attributed to a very special lady. It was a moving tribute to their Grandmother. Well worth visiting to see what Cretan life was like in the past before all the tourism.... More

A small interesting collection of a vanishing past: an old barber shop, an old coffee shop, and other business on the first floor and traditional crafts (embroidery, weaving, basketry, etc.) upstairs. The labels in English are very well done and are exceptionally informative.

We only discovered this museum this year. It is small but interesting with an especially lovely room display which is the work of one lady. The garden is an added bonus and very pleasant. The member of staff on duty when we visited was really friendly. The only downside was a very unpleasant toilet which is why I have only... More

A very appreciable attempt to reconstruct the traditional life and trades of Crete; a must-see for history aficionados and those who are interested in hand-made crafts. A sort of continuation of the archaeological museum that can be visited quickly

Good displays of craftsmanship, with a little 'street' with shops as they once were, you need less than an hour.
