I stayed in rethymno purely because there were no buses to plakias on my arrival day. I am so pleased with how it turned out. I would dedicate an hour to getting lost ... start at the Venetian harbour and then make your way through the narrow winding streets, via the fountain. Here here you can catch a glimpse of... More

Rethymno is a lovely place to meander round, the Venetian harbour is lovely, the only disappointing thing about it is the touts in the Taverners trying to drag you in, it's like running the gauntlet , this really ruins what would otherwise be a lovely place, I do wish they would stop this old outdated custom. We spent a couple of days enjoying a beautiful walk around the old town. Lots of cafes and bars, interesting architecture and churches, and very friendly people.

Travelled from Chania to Rethymnon by car along a coastline road with beautiful views of the sea. The old town is charming and has tavernas and restaurants around every corner. Enjoyed lunch at one of the many small restaurants. Portion sizes are more than ample and very good value for money.. Well worth a visit.

We love Rethymnon for it's atmosphere, history and beauty.Th old town is absolutely wonderful with it's harbour, shops and tavernas. It's abrilliant day out just wandering around. In my opinion though you miss out unless you wander around the back streets, away from the main tourist area. That is what will make the visit special.

Rethymnon Old Town is very beautiful - even with the graffiti that adorns just about every available wall! There is plenty of history here to see and its well worth exploring all of the narrow lanes - its very easy to find your way around. As well as the usual tourist shops, there are plenty of boutique shops, traditional tavernas... More
