As there is a bus only every 2 hours (due to COVID-19), and the stops are worth only about 15 - 30 minutes visiting time each, its not really possible to "hop-on / hop-off", without having to wait a long time for the next bus. It is better to stay on the bus and enjoy the 90 minutes of driving around Rethymnon and into the countryside around Rethymnon. Although there is nothing spectacular to see, we really enjoyed the drive around the countryside. A pleasant experience on a nice sunny day.

This is an enjoyable way to spend a few hours exploring the hinterland of Rethymnon. The highlight for us was the military museum which you can spend an hour or so exploring. You really need to have a seat on the top deck to enjoy the views. I didn’t give this the highest score because the last part of the route was changed without explanation and the bus failed to stop at one place where we wanted to get off. The audio commentary was adequate. All in all, good value.

A 30 minute city tour by road train. Driving in the town is difficult so travelling in a 3 carriage train through the narrow streets is quite interesting and shorter than the 75 minute tour by bus.The train is €7 per adult with multi-language commentary.

The views from the top deck are good and you get headphones to listen to the commentary. You probably won't get a seat on the top after stop 5 or 6. I wanted specifically to go to Agia Irini (stop 11), which should have taken 1hr 15mins to get to. What they don't tell you is after stop 10 (Roussospiti) the road was blocked and you actually need to get out at stop 10 and walk a few minutes to the monastery. The bus driver turned the bus around after driving through Roussospiti, drove past a sign to Agia Irini and basically reversed the route from where we had come from. When we stopped at stop 7, i asked him about Agia Irini. He told me to get off and get the bus going in the other direction (i.e. where we had just come from). However I wasnt prepared to stand in the middle of nowhere waiting for goodness knows how long. It seemed like no-one else on the bus either realised what had happened or was bothered about it. When I said to the girls on the ticket desk that the bus missed stop 11, they asked if I had listened to the commentary because I should have got out at 10 and walked - I had done and it did not say that at all. I ended up with a refund and disappointed at missing what is meant to be a great place.

Found the tour a bit boring. Headphone sockets not working on many seats. Tour was not as shown in map with no explanation.
