About Eco Events
We specialize in creating unique experiences, such as organizing excursions to remote traditional villages, so to give to our visitors the opportunity to interact with the locals and learn about their culture and habits. We invite you to witness the activities of the genuine Cretan life, such as harvesting soil and producing traditional products like wine, raki, cheese, traditional rusks, honey, olive oil... the list goes on! We always try to give our guests a warm experience, therefore most of our excursions are in small groups; that is because we value the personal feeling that mass tourism fails to deliver. Apart from daily trips to villages and natural landscapes, we give our guests the opportunity to organize a trip that will suit them 100%. By getting in contact, we can discuss and design the perfect one-day or multi-day trip for you. Therefore, we can personalize every experience depending on the taste, the wishes and the needs of each of our visitors.

Taste of Cretan Nature

On this tour you will have the chance to explore the Cretan genuine culture and customs. We will start by visiting, a not so known, monastery of the region of Mylopotapos. After 10 min drive we will meet Andreas, a Cretan shepherd. We will discuss about his daily habits and taste his homemade raki with some "meze". On the way to Apladiana, you will pass through orange trees, so you can cut an orange with your bare hands and enjoy its freshness! Not a bad tour but 3 main issues... 1. Far too much focus on history and architecture for a food tour 2. Too few tastings for a food tour 3. During a pandemic, it might not be prudent for the guide to eat from the same plates as the guests

Dear Dave536, 1) The tour is held in one of the most historical cities of Crete. During the 3-4 hours walking in the narrow streets of Rethymno, of course we will focus on history and architecture as much as in gastronomy. 2) We do not really know which date you had the tour, but whichever platform you have booked this tour from, the description is very precise: -- Stop at a kafeneio for Greek Coffee and sfakiani pita -- Stop for baklava / kataifi at Chatziparaschos -- Stop for Loukoumades at the bakery of the town -- Stop for honey tasting at a local shop -- Stop for (pretty much full lunch) at a local taverna where more than 5 plates are coming to the table What I want to underline is not the quantity, but that you knew exactly what you were buying. 3) In Crete "mezes" is served at the middle of the table and all the friends / company eats together. We believe that our guides are more than friendly. If you had an issue (because of the pandemic) why didn't you just tell them? Making reviews it is easy... but making no remarks, saying that everything is ok and later on writing a bad review, does not give us the opportunity to correct anything that makes you feel bad during the tour. Next time, I would strongly advise you to just speak with our guide the moment you have an issue... you will be surprised by the flexibility and the kindness they have. They could have changed everything you didn't like on spot, and you would have had a more than 2-star experience (after all, that's why, until now, we've had only 4-5 star reviews). Best Regards,

Hara was my guide she was very flexible and adjusted the experience based on things I had already done in the city. She was extremely friendly and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with her learning the city and some of the unique aspects of it. The food we sampled was very delicious. Don't pass this opportunity up!

We had a wonderful time in Rethymno with Alia, our tour guide – the walking tour was informative and interesting, and the lunch and food tasting were both excellent. We had decided against just staying in Chania during our one day on Crete, and I found this tour when looking for something my wife would enjoy, and Alia did not disappoint. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Crete who has a chance to spend an afternoon in Rethymno.

I try to do food tours everywhere because I feel it’s a good way to get to know a culture. It ended up just being me on the tour, but Hara and I had a blast together! She was so much fun and the food stops were really good (as well as some history thrown in there). Highly recommended!

I took this trip with my mother on our visit to Crete and it really was a highlight. Our lovely guide Vincent was an excellent careful driver, and even though air con was an option we drove with the windows down so that we could smell the beautiful thyme/pine/herb-y mountain air of Crete. Margarites was wonderful, and Vincent was careful to make sure we arrived in between busloads of other tourists so we had the whole village to ourselves, and the demonstration was done in the best, most traditional pottery in town. We weren't keen on doing the whole gorge hike as we're not very athletic and wanted a chill day, so we stopped off at the Eleftherna museum in addition to everything else. The Arkadi Monastery was incredibly moving, and Vincent told us the history of the place before we went in, which made it all even more meaningful. He's a natural storyteller and makes everything so interesting and emotionally resonate - a really fantastic guide. Last, we did the gorge, including lunch in the most wonderful traditional taverna. You can also visit the little church in the gorge and, if you're spiritually minded, I recommend taking a little something as an offering - or, as we did, some change for the candles. The gorge was shady and full of streams, and we did a short hike that wasn't too taxing but did go fairly high up. I would thoroughly and wholeheartedly recommend taking this tour, and if we had had time to take more tours with this company we would do again. Being just us and the guide was a real luxury as well, as we could follow al our little whims and curiosities about the places we were in without having to rush. Eleven out of ten, what a great day!
