About
Established in 1903, Estate Argyros is run by Matthew Argyros, 4th generation of winemakers. Based in Episkopi Santorini, the winery cultivates 130ha of vineyards with ungrafted (original rootstock) phylloxera safe plants averaging 80 years old, including some of the oldest vines of the island (over 200 years old). All vineyards are planted with our heritage grape Assyrtiko, among other indigenous varieties of Santorini, such as Aidani and Mavrotragano. Our mission is to protect the unique varieties of Santorini and present their pure character.

- Jo_and_TomAnna, Ohio2,049 contributionsBeautiful Winery - Excellent Tour - Good Wine pairingThis was part of Luxury Travel - Pure Wine tradition with Elle our Guide. Great place to start, beautiful winery and facility. Very upto date with traditional approach to wine making. We arrived and were given a tour of facilities and had explanation fo Santorini grape growing which is unique due to the climate of low rain and extensive winds along with terrior which is primarily volcanic soil. This is the oldest and largest private vineyard owner of Santorini. They were established 1903 but have making wines for 4 generations. After the tour of the facility we were given a tasting which included pairing various foods. What may seem bitter by itself was good with the food presented as well as the differences between the taste of same wine with different foods.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2024
- AWSan Antonio, Texas6 contributionsAmazing experience with knowledgeable staff!I have been to many wineries....this is definitely in my top 5! The tour was very high energy with some excellent teachable moments about the different way wine is produced in Santorini. We learned but we also had a great time. The tasting was educational and fun. Several of us bought additional glasses as the wine was great and the view was perfection. Make sure you visit here!Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 June 2024
- LCB53Fordingbridge, United Kingdom132 contributionsOldest winery on the islandWe walked from our apartment hotel to this winery. It took about 40 minutes and it’s all uphill! On arrival you are asked as to whether you would like a €20.00 tasting (4 wines) or a €40.00 tasting ( 6 wines - 3,white, 1 red and 2 desert wines) including an explanation around how the vines are cared for and how the wines are produced. It’s the oldest winery on Santorini and traditional methods are used, such as picking the grapes 🍇 by hand. The vines are low to the ground and some are wrapped within a basket made from twisted wood which protects the grapes. Some new vines are on a watering system of 2 drops of water every month for 6 months and then they are on their own. The old vines (circa 200 years old) don’t get watered at all. The wine is produced under harsh conditions which makes for the tasting all that more special. After the explanation the tasting starts which can be inside the building or outside on the patio. Inside was better because it was air conditioned! A savoury platter is part of the tasting (we chose the €40.00 option) and each wine is paired with a particular cheese on the platter and a slice of delicious trout and some meat slices. Of the three wines I enjoyed the Cuvee which was just delicious with a touch of oak, however at €56.00 a bottle we did not buy one! The red was neither here nor there as white wine is the specialty. A small platter of sweet titbits are provided to taste the two vin santo’s (desert wine) which were absolutely delicious but at €76.00 it was again out of our price range. Highly recommend visiting this old winery, established in 1903.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 June 2024

We would highly recommend this wine tour. We opted for the 1.5 hour tour with 6 wine tastings & nibbles. Amazing value for money & a great experience. The views are breathtaking & we stayed for another glass & bought a bottle to have at our apartment.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 9 July 2024
- W6RavenNew York City, New York300 contributionsIf you only see 1 winery in Santorini- make this one it!What an incredible wine tour- surely the best value on the island. We had a semi private tour with Victoria who was fantastic. Make sure to do the 90 minute tasting- you won’t regret it. We bought 3 of the 6 wines we tasted. Cheers!Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 August 2024

My fiancé and I went last night and would highly recommend, the building was stunning with a brilliant atmosphere in the main bar area and a warm welcome from all the staff. We had a personal tour round the grounds/ production area which was so lovely as we were able to ask questions and have a one on one conversation with our guide.
We were sat at our own table and our guide brought us a plate of nibbles and would then bring over a bottle of wine, tell us about it, answer our questions then recommend a food pairing and he then left us to it to have it in our own time.
We ordered a couple of glasses extra at the end of the tasting of the wine we had liked the most and it was very reasonably priced, as was the whole experience giving how great the service was and how exceptional the wine was.
Overall would highly recommend for a lovely evening out, we would absolutely go again if visiting santorini again.

While holidaying on Santorini in early March (off season), many of the wineries around the island were understandably closed, which is to be expected. How fortunate we were that Argyros Estate was not. The reservation process was a breeze and the tasting with charcuterie featuring Greek cheeses was excellent. I knew going in that Assyrtiko would be one of the selections as Santorini's trademark white, but theirs does not disappoint. Even a young vintage like 2018 has the complexity and character to stand toe-to-toe with other semi-dry whites like Chenin blanc or Viognier. For the tour and tasting our wine host was Maria, a young woman from Athens. She was outstanding; so knowledgeable, sharp, warm, and friendly. From start to finish a terrific experience.

I ve been visiting and buying wine at Estate Argyros too many times over the years. Since it was a smaller place ran by Matthew s father, Giannis, and still now. The new building is huge so they can host many guests for their tours and wine tasting, a bit too modern for my taste, but the service from people working is friendly, smiling and fast. They offer big snacks together with the wines.
Estate Argyros has won many international awards for their wines and specially for their dessert one Vinsanto, which I love.
All the best to the team!!

We visited the Estate Argyros vineyard in August. Busy time as it is harvest and press time. Top line it was kind of underwhelming. It’s a very modern and sleek facility. Could have been in Nappa. There was a 5-10 min tour and then a tasting of 3 or 4 wines. The wine was good. The tour was pretty superficial and the tour guide - while friendly - sounded like she was reading a script (and that she escaped from Disney). There were others there who seemed to be on organized multi vineyard wine tours (vs us being dropped off by a transport company) that seemed to be getting more information from an outside wine tour guide (and having more fun). Wine was pretty good.

A friend who’d previously visited Santorini and did this tour recommended it to us upon learning we were coming here. And I can absolutely see why! Having done a few things like this previously (although not in Santorini) I can honestly say this was right up there with them and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves wine, food and a good view. You also learn a few things too!
Even though the estate is big and was quite busy when we came we experienced a very personal service, with our own member of staff taking us on the tour of the vineyard and it’s workings, as well as talking through the wine and food pairings we went on to try. This for me set it apart from some of the other experiences I’ve had. Unfortunately I can’t recall his name but he was friendly, knowledgeable and was more than happy to answer any questions we had. I also liked that nothing was rushed, even though they were obviously busy, and we were allowed to just savour the wine and the beautiful views.
Our tour lasted around around 15mins, from which we then went on to try six wines (from memory) and three food plates which were a combination of meats, fish, cheeses, bread and also some sweet treats (this was actually more than we expected and we didn’t need to eat for the rest of the evening!). This was all done outside, overlooking the vineyard. Whilst we were booked for an hour and a half we easily stayed for two hours. Again there was no pressure to hurry through anything and we were allowed to just enjoy what was put in front of us. Afterwards we also spent some time browsing their store and ended up coming away with a bottle of one of the whites we tried.

Wonderful winery experience in Santorini. The estate itself is huge, but the staff is helpful and kind. Mary was our guide and was terrific at explaining the winery and the unique process of growing and processing wine grapes in Santorini. She also did a wonderful job with explaining the wine tastings we had, and we appreciated the plate of snacks that was provided to pair with the wines. The cost of the tasting and tour is 15euro and the price of the wines and olive oils that they sell were incredibly reasonable! We left with three bottles of wine, bottles of olive oil, and chocolate. The patio is a wonderful spot to spend the afternoon.

Highly recommended. Having also been to another winery (probably the most famous of them all), we recommend starting with this if your visit to the island is limited.
We started with a short tour (about 15 minutes) which was very interesting and then we sat at a table in the open air with a view of vineyards and were served 4 wine tastings including a platter of cheeses, sausages and chocolates suitable for any type of wine.
The guide (Anna) was lovely. The wines are special and delicious and you could definitely see the different flavors that the guide described for each wine.

Staying in Kamari, this estate was really close by and we were told it was the best from a quality perspective. We opted for the Taste the Real Santorini tour (90 minutes) which included a tour, taste of 7 wines and food to complement the wines. Our guide Marina was brilliant - friendly, funny and really knowledgable and passionate about the wines. I’m not a white wine drinker but was blown away by the Cuvee. But the piece de resistance for me was the Vinsanto - both the 4 year and 20 year were amazing so definitely do the 7 wines tour so you can try both. Wines can be shipped so we bought our favourites and won’t have to lug them home on the plane.

We visited Estate Argyros as part of a tour and absolutely loved it. The winery is modern and beautiful and the wines are divine. The attention paid to food pairing with each wine was really impressive, and our guide through the tasting was informative and friendly. We definitely recommend a visit.

Do you need to book in advance for a wine tasting or can you just stop by?
Written 2 September 2017
I would recommend that you book in advance. While I believe that you can just "stop by", the experience will be greater with a reservation. For example, they prepare tapas plates so that you can see how various foods (cheeses, meats, sweets) pair with the respective wines. I don't know if they have those plates readily available for anyone who walks in, or if that's all part of the greater service that comes with a reservation.
