Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This ruin of a castle sits on the top of a mountain only accessible by foot. You leave your car at the bottom - but there is no dedicated car park. You just have to park on the side of the road. As we visited in April, it wasn't very busy. It is free to go up. The footpath to the top is rocky and the steps can be very slippery. If its a windy day think twice before venturing up. There are not many safety barriers around and a gust of wind nearly knocked me and my wife over on the steps. There is a tiny church at the top offering fabulous views across the bay. I would not recommend this for small children, anyone with a buggy, or if you are unstable on your feet.
Not long is needed here - maybe an hour at most. There is a cafe at the bottom.

We were staying in Lindos and drove here on a day trip. It was worth it since there are a number of interesting things to see on the way and you get to see this lovely setting for the castle, or what’s left of it. Tip - stop before you wind down to the free car parking area to get some good photos from above. Access to the castle is reasonably painless and free.

At a high rock directly at the coast, there's a solitary castle called Monolithos.
Already the drive to the castle is great - a scenic road with beautiful views of the coast and the castle.
For the castle itself, you have to take a short, but steep walk from the foot of the hill up to the top of the rock - and then you can see the old ruins of this hospitaller fortress and great views over the coastal landscape.
There's also a small shop with cafe and restrooms at the foot of the hill.
Besides that: a short visit to the village of Monolithos nearby is also a good choice. It's also known for the small shops with honey and other local specialties.

A fantastic place for before sunset! A castle in the southwestern part of the island where you can visit and see its beauty! A small path from the parking spot through the pines to climb the stairs to the castle. There as soon as you climb, you will find a small chapel but also a ruin building which you can sit on its roof or enter.. The view is amazing, you can see up to Halki, Symi and Turkey.. I recommend!!!

There is not much left of the castle itself, but its location on a large rock offers a fantastic view of the entire surrounding area. Entry is free, but you have to climb a few steps from the car park to get to the castle grounds. There is a nice chapel inside the remains of the walls. If you are in the area anyway, you should not miss a stop at the castle. Afterwards, it is a good idea to continue on to the beautiful Fourni Beach, which can be reached in a few minutes if you continue along the road.

This is a ruin of a medieval castle with a working bell and a chapel at the top. The climb is up ancient stone steps and bit uneven (be careful if you have bad knees!). We timed our visit for sunset and it well worth it. Since we were there in the "shoulder season" it was very windy! Plan accordingly. It was a beautiful way to end the day (we spent the few hours before sunset at Fourni Beach which is a steep drive down about 10 minutes.)

Lovely place, about a 40min drive from Lindos. Stunning views, quiet, not crowded at all. Mind that to do the photo in ruins as many did; you must go off trail, behind the fenced area🤫, as it is deemed dangerous now. Still plenty of great photo opportunities 😊

After a stunning drive on the western side of the island, we reached the Monolithos Castle. Cell service was very limited so the navigation was sketch getting there. The attraction was not staffed and some stupid af bro was climbing on top of everything. Scaling roofs and jumping up and down to see if it was stable to walk on. Aside, the views were spectacular and there was enough signage around to learn about the castle. Would really love the tourism bureau of Rhodes to create a driving tour commentary on their attractions. I think it would entice more people to drive down to this side of the island.

Relatively easy to get to. Even on the way there are great panoramic views and the opportunity to buy local products.
You can park at the foot of the ruins. The path over the stone steps is doable with sturdy shoes and not too long. Apart from the white chapel and the boundary walls, not much is left. A few ruins are also cordoned off for safety reasons, so you can't recreate all the photo motifs. But the view is breathtaking! And you can also take beautiful photos.
The snack stand down in front of the ruins has some freshly made snacks, drinks and ice cream on offer. If you take some of these, you can also get the toilet key 😉

But if you can't have seen, seems to be a pure Instagram place - but very many people overflow but hardly see anything.
If you arrive with your own car and Google Map be careful on your way back, you are often misdirected to Fournis Beach.

Hi, how difficult is to get there by car? I'm not a very good driver and now I feel uncertain about the steep way up and back.

How far from the castle to the airport?
Written 30 September 2019
I think is around 1 hour and 15 minutes

Ciao, visto che visitare al tramonto da quello che ho letto è il momento migliore, cosa mi consiglieresti di visitare prima come spiaggia in termini di distanza dal castello? Grazie in anticipo

is it possible to walk up with a stroller? or are we better off taking our 1 year old in a carrier?
Written 23 July 2018
I’d say carrier. Steps are uneven and very worn hence slippery. They wind quite a bit too so that would add to the stroller problems. Wear sensible shoes so that you are as sure footed as possible if carrying your little one. Good luck!!!

Hi I came across this review by accident & would like to respond to the question as to why the Greek people pile stones. Outside their doors often 3 stones is a symbol of good Karma, like building upwards is seen as a positive strength. This is all, I hope that this interests you.
