Filerimos offers three great attractions: gigantic cross in the end of Via Dolorosa, 15th century Gothic monastery, and remains of the castle that has a long and complex history. The combination of fresh air, stunning views, and beautiful architecture makes this place just incredible. Also, this is a rare in Rhodes tourist attraction where you will meet very few people because there is no public transportation to get there. So, rent a car, join a tour, or take bus #50 to Tharrenou and a taxi from there to Filerimos. Taking a taxi, keep in mind that on a way back you will call for taxi that could be costly.

A most beautiful place to visit and well worth the effort but, as a previous reviewer warned, make sure you have transport because when we arrived at the monastery our taxi driver said that he couldn’t guarantee a pickup time. It was a nice walk down a steep road with lots bends. We hadn’t prepared for this so hadn’t checked out the walking trail.

There are lots of peacocks and good views over the city of Rhodes. We visited the monastery and a ruined Greek temple. We were on a guided tour with Holland America and perhaps that clouded our views. However, we thought that there were nicer things to do on this wonderful island.

A visit to Mount Filermios was part of a shore excursion we took from our cruise ship. It was really quite an interesting place - with stunning views of the town below. We visited the very small Church of Our Lady, saw lots of ruins and peacocks, lots of peacocks! We took the path that had stations of the cross along it and which led to the giant cross. This site is definitely worth spending some time at.

This is well worth a visit. At the top there is a monastery (€6) and a ruined Greek temple, and in the other direction a giant cross with stations of the cross running up to it. You get amazing views across Rhodes. In the middle there is a shady outdoor cafe selling ice cream and cold drinks. Oh, and there are peacocks all around. We got a taxi there and back from our hotel in Ialyssos / Trianda, which was €15 each way. The staff at the cafe will ring a taxi for you to get back down.

Amazing and breathtaking view. You can drive all the way up, the road is not so difficult even though it's steep. We walked among the peacocks (so no dogs allowed!). Wish we had gone there to watch the sunset - if you get the chance go in the early evening and stay till sunset. Not too crowded with people.

We caught the bus from oppersite the Blue Sky hotel near the old town. There are a limited number of buses that go to the summit a day. So visit was cut short by need to catch the next bus back or face a 3 1/2 wait for the later one.
Still it was a pleasure to see the views from the Cross and see the many peacocks walking around. Just lacked time to do the monastery. So my advice to you is pre-check I'm the bus times at tourist information before hand. As if we arrived on the 12:00 bus things would be better time wise.

I travelled by bus to this attraction from Rhodes Town bus station it was 4.40 euro each way. With only 1 bus each way that day I got the 9.45am there and the 11.45am return it took about 25 minutes to get there which gave me ample time to see all I wanted to see. The views from this location are amazing like the views you get climbing up the mountain on the bus. Was lovely to see the peacocks roaming free literally inches from you. The monastery is well worth the 6 euro charge if you are into looking at old architecture and hopefully it does go to keeping this attraction open. Not many people there at my time of a visit which I appreciated more. If in Rhodes go spend sometime here you will not be disappointed.

We got a Tour bus up to the top of the mountain, you are greeted by around 50 peacocks who are friendly if you have food to give. It is a short walk to a beautiful statue of the cross which can be seen from the village below, its 16 metres big. The mountain has amazing views all around Rhodes. There is a small shop and toilets on the top of the mountain.

Filerimos Mountain is located about 8 miles outside of Rhodes Town on the west coast. The drive is along a lovely winding road lined with cypresses and pines. Our private tour with Rhodes Taxi and Limo Service included a visit here. At the top you’ll find the Acropolis of the Ancient Ialyssos with ruins of the temple of Athena Polias, the Church of Our Lady of Filerimos, the Monastery, and the Way of the Cross. We arrived around 2 pm, and there were just a few other people there. It was so quiet and peaceful! We walked the ‘Road to Calvary', a path lined with tall pines and the Stations of the Cross. At the end is a gigantic 48 ft. high concrete cross, standing in a small square. The views are breathtaking! Since our cruise ship was in Rhodes for only 1 day, we didn’t have time to visit the Church or Monastery. I would definitely recommend a visit. It’s a special place. No wonder that many couples choose to get married here.
