Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The entance was free with the ticket for the byzantyne museum (i100 m) . Very glad we got time to visit (about 0,5 hour). The region has been famous for its silver and they have a very nice and varied collection. Also good explanations about the different methods used to make the silver objects.

A beautifully laid out museum of the techniques used to refine and work silver with a focus on the regional creations. Set over two levels in an historical part of the castle complex it is a great place. It can be difficult to see displays as there really is only room for single file progress around the displays. Really informative and some beautiful works in the second floor.

This museum is in a beautiful refurbished building. The exhibits are interesting and very well built. It was so impressive to learn about the history and craft. The collection is upstairs and features some exquisite pieces. We left with a deeper appreciation for this important industry.

I visited this museum several years ago. It's still very good. A little bit difficult to find, but worth it. It's built into the walls of the Castle. Ioannina is known for its silverwork. This craft is beautifully placed into its historic context. Several hands-on displays are included

It's the first time I see a museum dedicated to the history of silversmith, which is closely related to the role of Ioannina in the middle age. It's nice to see the whole flow documented by video and you could easily grasp how the whole thing works, particularly interesting for people studying science and engineering.

Never been to a silver museum and would not have gone if it didn’t start raining heavily so we dashed in for a spell not expecting much and boy were we wrong! Very interesting! Lots of artifacts and information.

Excellent restoration of the old building that hosts the exhibition! The atmosphere and the lighting of the interior are quite mystagogic. Interesting pieces of silver jewelry and other accessories or weapons of the city's history. A must see!

For anyone interested in the history of the Silversmiths craft then visiting this museum is a must. There are plenty of exhibits that introduce you to the materials and tools used since ages ago by the locals in order to deliver their masterpieces.

Fabulous place. The Museum building is in the sort of "inner inner" area of the Castle, and is housed in beautifully restored and refurbished buildings which form part of the Castle walls. The interior is modern and floors and stairs "float" on steel supports in the space provided by the restored stonework. Lighting is sharp and clear. Display cases are so designed that the view of the contents isn't spoiled by reflections. The cases themselves hang, visually, in mid-air and the displayed items themselves "hang" in the cases.

It's beautifully done - the architect did a genius job of it.

As for the silversmithing itself, there are modern, clever explanatory videos showing background information, and scenes of silversmithing from the 1950s and 1960s in Ioannina. The work is superb and it's a shame - though perhaps inevitable - that the skills and the the industry are largely gone.

If time permitted, I'd happily pay a repeat visit. It's an absolute bargain at €3 per person and free for over 65s. The cafe is nice too, and very cheap. Do yourself a favour and go.
