- Cindy W20 contributionsWorthwhile stop.Definitely a stop worth spending time at. From the top of the tower you have amazing views of the sea and the city. With admission, you can follow an audio on each floor with the history and setting of the times. Highly recommendVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 October 2023
- BlackMambaNumberFiveNew York City, New York156 contributionsSymbol of ThessalonikiThe white tower is a symbol of Thessaloniki of sorts. It has 6 floors outlining the history of the city and panoramic views from the balcony on top. I could see the city on one side and the Aegean Sea and ships on the other. They offer audio tours as well. I could peak out from its windows and grab various angles of the city from them. I suggest walking along the waterfront, as well to get the view of the tower from a distance.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 19 June 2024
- Pat F4 contributionsGreat view, museum needs workFive stars for the view from the top, maybe three for the museum that spans the six floors as you climb. The museum could have been great, had so much of it not been broken when we visited (September '24). There was certainly a lot of information there covering pretty much the entire history of the city, in some detail. But even with the help of the audio guide, it was confusing - especially when a particular exhibit was broken or malfunctioning (which many were). The projected photo gallery was utterly hopeless - most of the pictures were impossible to make out as they zoomed across the wall without pausing. I hope for the sake of future visitors they take the time to fix it all.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 September 2024

If you're interested in paying the entrance fee simply to get to the top and see the view, then by all means, go ahead. It's a fully legitimate reason. But if you think you'll be getting anything else for your money, you'll be disappointed.
The halls are supposed to offer a brief history of Thessaloniki. They kinda do, at least if you can read Greek. Although there are some translating devices offered (you can get them by displaying identification), I can't understand why some basic text (even that on computer screens!) can't also be offered in English, like in most museums. It's very disappointing, to say the least.
Moreover, we had to needlessly wait out in the cold for 20 minutes, because the door was locked - nowhere did it indicate you had to bang on the door so that they let you in. Poor service.

Anything old and of any cultural value seems to have been destroyed in Thessaloniki. This is a sad reminder of how boring this city has become.
The promenade was full on Sunday evening - seems to be the only form of escape for its citizens.

Very informative display of various aspects of the city (e.g. history, people, commerce, arts, etc).
The info is mostly textual, rather than visual and the discourse quite naive (religious/nationalistic oriented). Yet I did enjoy and learned a lot about the city. The view from the top is magnificent and the entrance fee only 3 Euro.

Ok, so it isn't the Empire State Building, or the Eiffel Tower, but it is the most enduring symbol of this city, and definitely worth a visit. There are 96 steps to the top (I couldn't find that info anywhere online!) and they are wide and shallow stairs, very easy to climb. On each of five levels, there are rooms to the side that use multimedia to tell the history of the city. An audioguide translates the exhibits to English. My kids enjoyed all the little nooks and crannies. Also, watch your head! I'm not sure if people were just shorter all those years ago, but the ceilings were very low, especially in the arched doorways between rooms. If you're taller than about 5 foot 4, you'll need to bend alot.

White Tower. The trademark of one of the most beautiful cities in Greece.
I had tried many times to visit him. Unfortunately, the opening hours are not very stable, as a result of which I had to cancel my visit more than 5 times.
The ticket price is quite good, with prices ranging from €7 to €3.
Additionally, there is no time limit on the visit.
We should also emphasize that the dances are NOT accessible to people with mobility disabilities, except for the ground floor space, as it does not have stairs.
Each floor of this landmark monument is also an independent museum.
Most people visit the White Tower mainly for the view from the 35-meter roof. I can say that the view is magnificent, as you can see all of Thessaloniki, and especially the extension towards Kalamaria. If you have specifically visited Thessaloniki for tourism, I strongly recommend visiting the concrete monument.

The tower and exhibition itself was nice, well-maintained and there were audio guides available in English and German.
The staff members, however, were unfriendly and unhelpful. There is one staff member stationed at every exhibition. They offer no extra information or help. They are literally there to watch you like a hawk. Made the experience very uncomfortable, like you were entering in to their personal space.
Also after experiencing the friendliness and hospitality the Greeks have towards children and young families like us, they were very rude and unhospitable towards us and our children. Our son got told off for touching a glass case. We also got told off for letting our 6 year old hold the audio guide "because they are very fragile".
If you are a history buff and HAVE to experience a quintessential historical part of Thessaloniki, sure visit the White Tower.
If you're looking to fill your time with small children, there are other nicer things the city can offer.

I recently visited the White Tower, with my ticket price 3 Euros upon my request they gave me an English headset. I expected that this would be a useful item to have but it proved not to be. The audio simply stated what the topic was of each numbered screen's, all the written info was only in Greek & it was as the saying goes "all Greek to me' as I had no idea what the details were, pity.
The view from the top is stunning & in someways it was worth the price of admission, just don't expect to be enlightened . ;)

Previous reviewers already mentioned that all info is in Greek only. Strange and a shame considering it's one of the symbols of Thessaloniki and that the various exhibts give an excellent summary of the history of the city. Summer entry fare is 6 euros which is a bit steep if you only go in for the view and cannot read the information panels.
Also, almost no information about the history of the structure itself. Read up on this online prior to visiting.

The white tower is a impressive building, that hosts the more or less official history of the city. Many interesting thing are to discover about her or modern Greece in total. Sadly even as a history fanatic, the way its presented can be very tiring. General good ideas, needs fixing.

This is an interesting monument, and the exhibition inside seems to be quite interesting. However, all panels are in Greek only! This seems to me hard to understand, taking into account the number of foreign tourists visiting the city and the fact that this is advertised as one of its top attractions. At least the view from the top on a beautiful day was amazing,

I would like to know if the white tower is suitable for people with mobility problems (difficulties walking, stairs etc.)

We will be driving a rental car. Is there anywhere to park?
Written 25 January 2018
Non-paid parking will be a challenge. There are at least 5 with payment that I know of at a walkable distance. I would recommend closed ones at Mitropoleos st. or near the YMCA (Hanth). If you want to spend more time in the city center and you don't mind opem air, the ones at Aggelaki st. or at the harbour are much cheaper. Have fun!
