Exclusively cultural trip as Thessaloniki, apart from the beautiful promenade, is absolutely not beautiful.
Beautiful instead the Byzantine churches, the upper part, beautiful museums.
From Thessaloniki you can reach Verghina, 80 km away, where there is an amazing museum with the tomb of Philip II the Macedonian and the artifacts that were in the tomb of a unique magnificence!!
That alone is worth the trip!
Then you can continue, even if a little distant, to the Meteors, monasteries perched on strange rock formations, completely frescoed, very beautiful and interesting.

Really great monument beside the water. Not far from White Tower. Really worthwhile to see. Quite large monument. 5 min walk from there to buses to go back to Port. Monument in middle of square with no shade so it was quite hot there in June.

It's a great statue, of the most famous sons of Macedonia, Alexander the Great, on his horse, Bucephalus. The six metre high monument is in the area of Nea Paralia, near the water, in a beautiful public area, on Thessaloniki harbour. A beautiful monument worth visiting.

Historically important monument and pride of all Greeks. In the area of Nea Paralia, one of the most popular, full of energy sites of Thessaloniki, it is possible to find the monument of one of the most famous and influential personalities of all times. A person who created a legend still heard until today. This is the monument of Alexander the 3rd, also known as 'Alexander the Great'. Its rich and interesting history is more or less familiar to everyone. Born in 356Bc in Pella, Macedonia he was the son of King Philip the 2nd of Macedon and Princess Olympia whose origin was from Epirus. He had the privilege to be educated by one of the greatest philosophers of all time, Aristotle. Alexander inherited the throne of the Macedonian Kingdom right after his father's assassination in 336 Bc. He used some of the most genius strategies and military tactics thus ending up in some of the greatest triumphs in human history.
Until his death in 323Bc in Babylon he had already created an enormous empire stretching from Thrace and Macedonia to the depths of Egypt and the Indian Peninsula in the Far East. New commercial trade routes were established for the first time. Establishing a touch between civilizations that had never met before.
Alexander's achievements had set the foundation for the era to come. He was credited with the rise of Greek civilization that spread all over the world at an unprecedented level thus influencing science, art and culture.
The monument on the shore itself is an impressive six-meter tall monument that represents Alexander while riding his horse "Voukefalas" (Bucephalus), one of the most famous horses of antiquity. Certainly nice to see.

On the beach of Thessaloniki, next to the White Tower is the statue of Alexander the Great, the Greek King of the Macedonians. It is represented by Alexander the Great riding the Wakefield, a warrior who has for 20 years been joining the Macedonian commander in his campaigns. It was erected in 1973 by expatriate commissions and was inaugurated in 1974. It is the work of sculptor Evangelos Moustakas [1] who created it in his workshop in Pallini. The bronze statue was molded in the "Redjo Micelucci" foundry in Pistoia, Italy. The height of the statue is 6 meters and weighs 4 tons. The total height along with the pedestal amounts to 11 meters.

Located close to The White Tower and near the waterfront, The Monument of Alexander The Great can impress everyone with a little knowledge about ancient history. The statue is very big, representing Alexander riding his horse, Bucephalus and near to the statue some spears and shield who are representing the ancient territories of Greece.
