Caught the local bus to the top gate and climbed up to the top of the castle for great views over Sparta and surrounds, as well as down to the immediate remains of Mystras. This is an incredible place to visit, as the paths are...More

A great historical place with lots to see and photograph. Very hilly though and not for those with limited walking ability. However, overall well worth the visit.

If you go to Mystras, expect a lot of steep climbing over unsteady surfaces. Expect most of the restored buildings to be churches and not have a lot of signage. I was very disappointed in the site since the focus of the restoration is religious...More

This is by all means rightfully a UNESO world heritage site. If visiting by car, then I recommend going first all the way up and starting the visit from the top entrance. You will enjoy not only the remains of the centre of Byzantine power,...More

We walked up and down the Mystras ruin city and were blown away by the beautiful Byzantine churches, the grandiose palace of the last emperor of the Byzantine empire. The views of Sparta and the spartan plains are captivating and the keep at the top...More
