Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The official name of this site is the Byzantine Castle of Trikala. We found this by accident when we decided to go for a drive from Meteora in the middle of the day while we let the heat of the day to cool down. We drove to Trikala and then saw the walls and castle as we drove in. We didn't see any signs so just kept looking for the castle and it wasn't to difficult to locate it, it is on a hill. When we arrived we stopped and had a cold drink in the cafe at the entrance and then went on in. We were greeted by a lovely lady who provided us with a guide leaflet in both Greek and English and she gave us a little history and indicated what we should see. She was very helpful. The clock tower does have amazing views and it's not a difficult walk up. Definitely go here if you are in the area.

One of the best places to see the entire city of Trikala since its one of the highest points. Visit the clock that's open for the public.

The entry is free and once inside the walls its a matter of scaling up the steps of the tower and taking some photos. Then a walk up around the wall to the stadium and back out.If you park near the big colourful church below its only a 10 monute walk and check out the church too.

Very nice Byzantine ramparts and main fort. Unfortunately not allowed in to the main building but the view from the clock tower is awesome! A very nice cafeteria is located on the grounds with friendly personnel and excellent coffee!

Nice tower at a nice park. From the top there's a lovely view of the surrounding area. The tower itself is n8ce but nothing special.

We were here at 15:00 and we were surprised at the kind invitation to hurry. It was Sunday - a wonderful time and a great place for walking, alas!

The grounds of the fort are well kept but not very informative. There is a nice view but not much to do there.

A must visit when you come to Trikala. Climb up the top of the clock tower, but be sure that it is open for visits (there is a timetable), you see all the city of Trikala, especially on a sunny day. The park is beautiful to walk around..

Part of Trikala's history this byzantine fort is a must attraction to visit.
Easy access and a short walk from the town center.
Go up at the near by clock tower for a spectacular view of the surrounds.
