This historic castle was constructed on three islands and is surrounded by lake and beautiful gardens. Frederiksborg Castle has housed The Museum of National History since 1878. A tour through the museum's many beautiful rooms is an encounter with kings, queens, nobles, the bourgeois, events, and epochs, which have all shaped the country's history and development from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. The museum was founded by brewer J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg.

Frederiksborg castle is beautifully located by a lake and has a fairy tale feel to it. It is worth going inside exploring it. Afterwards I would recommend that you go for a walk in the lovely huge gardens and/or sail on the lake.

This is the most beautiful of all of the palaces that I saw in Denmark. It reminds me of the Versailles in France. The building is impressive both inside and outside with lovely gardens. Although it is about an 1.5 hour drive from Copenhagen, it...More

Amazing garden in classic baroc style. Take a walk and enjoy a quiet moment on one of the many benches, that are strategilly placed, beautifully overlooking the garden and the Castle build by Christian the 4th. Beware, that even on windy days, the garden-design gives...More

Beautiful castle in an idyllic setting, including moats, turrets, fountains, and lots of history. Considered to be on of the finest examples of Danish Renaissance architecture. Also has a modern touch in the huge paintings of the current queen and king.

Of all of the palaces that we visited (Amalienborg, Rosenberg, Kronborg) this is the best. Free audio guide which was great.
