In Assistens Cemetery it's okay to picnic, play games, juggle around and bike in many areas. On a sunny day you'll probably run into a birthday garden party in one of the large lawns, and every day the cemetery park is visited by joggers, parents on maternity leave, and dog walkers along the small paths. But pay attention: Signs will tell... More

I didn't find them right away, but eventually locate signs with maps to Hans Christian Andersen and Soren Kierkegaard's graves. Interesting how much activity there was for a cemetery.

We came upon this by chance. It's not a sombre cemetery. There are people relaxing, playing and walking through this. Treated as a park. Some of the tombstones are one of a kind and the gardens around them are attractive.

Get away from it all and visit this beautiful cemetery which is full of famous Danes including for many of us not from Denmark nine other than Hans Christian Anderson. Collect a map as you walk in. Identify the individuals you've heard of and follow the directions. A local gardener helped us as we walked past Mr Andersons grave (otherwise... More

Visited purely to take the ultimate picture of the avenue of trees. Absolutely stunning place - paid our respects to H.C. Andersen, the cemetery is such a beautiful comforting place - a must see.

Like most tourists, walking through any cemetery you always look for people of interest that a buried there. It is beautiful and peaceful. The efforts that some families made to honor and proudly show their elders who passed before them is interesting.

Get beyond the inner city and take a walk or a bike ride to Assistens Cemetery. It is like a second botanical gardens. We explored in the rain, enjoying the grave sights it is famous for (H.C. Anderson, Neils Bohr, Søren Kierkegaard and the homeless memorial) and the graves sights of people unknown to us. The tall lane of cyprus... More

Located in the now trendy area Nörrebro, it is a practical walkthrough, as well as a quiet and peaceful place to find peace in the green. The design is lead around the main allé, with high cypresses, pine and leafy trees. There are really old and huge water holes of stone. The allé is amazing, you can see all the... More

In the city centre where famous Danes are buried. Heard the local folks picnic here too. The danish are so civilised and well educated that they fear not the dead or the spiritually alive? Heard the homes that look upon this are very expensive locations. Maybe it's the green? I would never buy any real Estate with a view of... More

Staying in Inner Noerrebro

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner Noerrebro
Located just north of The Lakes, this neighbourhood is a melting pot of small quirky clothing stores, dozens of pizzerias and eateries of all types, a street almost entirely devoted to antiques, several microbreweries and even a couple of Michelin starred restaurants. Here you’ll also find Assistens Cemetery which is an ecclectic mix of tombstones as well as a recreational park and where you will find the tombstones of famous Danes, such as writer Hans Christian Anderson and physicist Niels Bohr. Inner Noerrebro is also home to one af the most popular theatres in Copenhagen, called Noerrebro Theatre. It shows both popular musicals and plays, as well as productions of a more experimental nature.
