This is the heart of old town Copenhagen, with its blend of charming old buildings and bold new architecture, broad avenues and tiny streets as well as picturesque canals and a modern harbor. The inner city is home to the Royal Danish Theatre, which consists of three buildings, two of which are new and situated on the harbor front. The streets, squares and venues of the inner city and its surrounding neighborhoods, are alive all year round with everything from jazz festivals to outdoor ice skating rinks and parachuting at the lakes right in the center of the city. This compact area boasts beautiful old castles, tranquil parks, and bustling squares where you can always find a bench to stretch out your legs whenever you need a break.

Our first visit to this friendly club and we would definitely return. It’s an intimate venue with good sound and pretty good sight lines. I was the only one with a column in my line of sight to the singer! Good range of beers but no decaf coffee. We didn’t eat there but menu looked fine.

We went to see Spöket i Köket (Ghost in the Kitchen - they are self described at nordic-canadian inspired lounge-rave folk music) at this venue, on a Wednesday night. It is a small club, some tables at the edges and row seating in the middle. Great, unusual music and a great venue! If you like jazz and are in CPH, try to see a show here!

With my friend were were in the concert of Isabella Lundgren. I never heard of Isabella so it was a pleasant surprise. She captured me with her dreamy voice and relaxed presence. She reminded me of Doris Day.
The sound was great, the atmosphere of the place intimate and Isabella and here fellow musicians were just wonderful. After the concert we had a nice chat with the band members and some other guests. I had a wonderful time.

This is a great place to go to to hear some local talent. It's a cash cover charge that varies depending on the group - but considering the high calibre of the musicians that we heard, it's very reasonable.

Visited with my wife and booked the pre concert dinner - three courses, no choice and a shade under £50 a head, but we enjoyed the food, although not overwhelmed by the portions. This gives you a chance to get a good seat which is advisable as nearer to 8pm the concert crowd arrive - you can tell the ones that come regularly - they scan the room and prowl about until they can squeeze in somewhere, probably to your discomfort. Anyway the concert was fabulous and the sound great, so I can forgive almost anything except for the price of the wine! £60 for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc is hefty even by Copenhagen standards. However the service was excellent, the ambiance terrific and overall a great night. I'm not sure if the kitchen is run on a franchise - I got the impression that there might be a change in the near future. Note no drinks or food are served during the performance to avoid noise so order before and in advance for the interval. There are two unmarked toilets in the foyer area so be aware that there will be queues - don't leave it until it is urgent! They managed to get my bill complete wrong which was strange as we had the same (very attentive but a bit touchy-feely) waiter all the time. Worth checking - had it not been so high I would probably just have handed my card over and not noticed.

If you’re into serious Jazz you’re going to love this place. They have an entrance fee based on the quality of the band that night. If you get there 30 minutes before show time you should get seating on a community table. Great way to meet locals too. Good acoustics. Smallish cozy venue. A limited fixed menu if you want to eat dinner. Centrally located.

If you like jazz, you must visit Jazzhus Montmartre when in Copenhagen.
Small house with a great history. Lots of big names within jazz played and play there. Wonderful, intimate atmosphere.
And a ticket price, that anyone is able to pay.

The jazz here is fantastic. First class artists and a crowd that is completely into the experience. Nobody talks over the music. Stage is well-positioned and sight-lines and acoustics are excellent.

However, the menu stinks. If you go for the jazz, you have NO options but the have the "Jazz Menu" which is fixed-price and has one appetizer, one main, and one dessert. No choice, no selection. And the choice our night was pork cheeks! Which I don't consider food, really. $80 Canadian per person and pork cheeks. My friend objected and they nicely made her a vegetarian dish of cabbage and cheese. Well, now $80 for cabbage! The salmon appetizers were fine, the pork cheeks were just barely O.K. and the side potatoes and mustard sauce were good. But with the concert tickets we were out $250 for the evening (without alcohol, as well) and it just wasn't worth that.

Sadly if you don't go for the dinner you won't get as good a seat to see the jazz. And the jazz is really good.

My wife and I decided to go here on our last night in Copenhagen and the artist was a Swedish singer, Victoria Tolstoy, who we had never heard of [we are from Canada] but the club reputation was excellent so we got our hotel to book us the dinner and the show for a couple of days ahead. We were highly impressed by the show - she is an excellent performer even if we didn't understand a word between tunes! but her band was outstanding. We would have gone just for the music had we known but the dinner was great as well.

The menu was fixed and our only choice was between fish or chicken for the main. I had the fish which was a tender and flaky white fish with a delicious sauce and my wife had the chicken which was also tender and tasty. The appetizers and dessert were also great so good staff in the kitchen. If you want to go for the food as well as the entertainment, we would highly recommend a visit.

It is a small club and the seating was very close. Elbow to elbow but we got to know our neighbours seated next to us at the long table - don't expect to have much of a private conversation - as well as some students seated in
the 'concert' seating on the other side of us. I'm guessing that this crowding together is necessary in order to generate enough revenue to be able to afford the band and if that is the case, I am all in favour of paying the band well.

So, we went because the reputation of this venue was for good jazz and we were very pleased with that and the bonus is that the food was also great. The only downside is the crowding. However we would recommend Jazzhus Montmartre for both the dinner and a show. For us, it was a great end to a wonderful trip to Copenhagen
