Real gem of a museum. Partly open air, and very hands on, with plenty of artisanal courses, like rope and ship making. Good cafe and wifi too.

I've been to the Viking Museum in Oslo and to the Viking exhibit in the National Museum in Copenhagen. I would say this museum is superior to both. The main building where you pay for admission contains the five ships hauled from the bottom of the fjord, along with other fascinating exhibits. I was fortunate to arrive just in time... More

We took a short train trip from Copenhagen to Roskilde to visit the Viking museum which was very interesting. They had a number of displays about the Viking life style, clothes, and ship construction. The five (1000 years old) Viking ships were impressive.

We had been frustrated 12 years before when industrial action in teh city prevented us from getting to the Museum but maybe it was meant to be as this time the wonderful Sea Stallion was in port. You get to see ships being built, look at the remains of the original ships and a chance to man a ship for... More

Five ships hauled from the bottom of the fjord after 900+ years. Amazing conservation work, and research into ship building and sailing techniques. Beautifully presented in one great hall with spectacular views of Roskilde fjord.

We loved it. It gives a well balanced and clear history of the Vikings and their seafaring. Would always recommend it

So much fun seeing the ships and trying on Viking costumes! Took around 1.5 hours to see everything including a short movie.

Interesting museum. Not too much to see, though worth the visit. The shop was excellent. To bad the viking ship rides were closed for winter.
