This was a lovely experience at the end of a couple of very busy days. It was so serene and peaceful going through farmland and native bush. It was just the right distance, long enough to relax but not too long to get dull. Congratulations to Neil and Jane for such an innovative experience.

A little way out of Rotorua. Something different. Self-drive rail car, Mamaku. Rail car takes 4 people, one is designated the driver (controls a hand brake). Trip takes over an hour, and there is a recorded commentary on the journey. Interesting but not exciting. Probably needs more development and arranged attractions on the journey, such as different animals in the... More

A true entrepreneur has started this adventure on a disused branch rail line about 15-20 kms north of Rotorua. With made to purpose little four passenger hybrid (electric/petrol) rail "Cars", the trip is totally preprogrammed, so all you need do is relax and enjoy the varied scenery. You are met at the end of the line and turned around for... More

An excellent adventure for young and not so young. The 19km trip in a little electric car on railway track through the countryside is fantastic and no driving is involved. Kids will have a ball

The self-drive (*) Rail Cruiser is something you won't experience anywhere else. We travelled through a native forest and at times had views of Rotorua, this is a relaxing experience with a maximum of 4 people on board. While there were quite a few Rail Cruisers on the track we only spotted the others at the stations. (*) While it... More

Really enjoyed this trip as you get the loco driver view (obviously at a lower level). We were there on a showery grey day but it was still fun. Very enjoyable. There mid February 2017 with an Australian rail enthusiasts group. Highly recommended

We really enjoyed the ride on the rail car. If it had been sunny it would have been perfect. We enjoyed the commentary and the peaceful ride. Would recommend to families and couples.

This was great fun! A ride along an old branch line in a self-controlled rail car seating up to four people. Well,I say self controlled and while you start it off by releasing the brake, and can stop it in an emergency, it's really controlled by computer, which slows it down for two level crossings and the scenic sections overlooking... We stumbled across the railcruising website while looking for activities near Rotorua and after watching the video decided it was a must-do experience. Small electric rail cars which seat up to 4 people cruise along a restored train line through the countryside- forest, farmland and views over the lake to Rotorua. Before setting off there are instructions and safety briefing... More

Three of us traveled in one of these cutsie little rail cars and even though the rain was bucketing down we were comfy and dry whilst enjoying the commentary and the scenery. On a clear day I believe one has views of the lake and of Mokoia island but I still enjoyed the trip and the chance of seeing 1000... More
