Went to the Springs today. They lost two sales today. I was told by the very obnoxious and impatient barman at the Golf Club entry the price was $18.00. This was as a local a free walk. Absolute rip off. I will not recommend this walk for anyone now coming to NZ.
I can highly recommend FREE walks at Lake Okareka & Blue Lake. There is also a lovely walk around the Green Lake all FREE. The Redwoods & Kuirau Park & Ohinemutu and Sulphur Point all FREE.

Arrived for our walk to the spring to find the front gate locked . After doing some research found that the crown had returned the land back to the local iwi. That’s fine but this walk WAS an excellent family adventure. Unfortunately the entry price has now stopped many Kiwi families from enjoying it . So disappointing !
My Tip. Drive to the Taupo A C baths and spend the day there ,where the local council have done their utmost to keep entry frees at a very low level .

We turned up on a Saturday morning expecting to pay a small amount for entry as everything you have 2 pay for these days, but $18 per person is completely unjustifiable. Since when did walking become expensive? Just another "Maori" attraction that was once free but now they capitalizing on. It looks beautiful from the outside though.

Years ago we used to enjoy going to see the spring and redwoods. But this time we found a locked gate and a scrappy handwritten notice saying you had to go the golf course and pay for tickets. No indication of how much the tickets are but turned out to be an exorbitant $18 to walk to the springs and back. Seems that now it’s been handed over to the Maori iwi, they’re treating it as a money-spinner. Although, judging by the lack of visitors, it’s not working for them. This place, like other walks in the area, should be open to all. Not impressed!!!

It was free of charge in 2013 but since this land returned to local Maori iwi they charge 18pp for a short walk. The magic has gone. Too expensive for local New Zealander. I paid $49 for family pass. I would not return and not worth a visit. There are more free and wonderful place to visit in Rotorua.

We parked in the Golf Club car park which also had a sign for Hamurana Springs. Our tickets were purchased from inside the golf club reception by a very friendly man. We got discount for Gold card (only $8). There’s a toilet block to use before you set off on the walk.
You will quickly come across a wooden bridge where the crystal clear water flows beneath. It’s really the clearest water I have ever seen. Continue the walk and follow the river and before long you come to the magnificent redwoods! Absolutely stunning.
Along the way there are information boards to tell you about the history of the place and some wooden benches.
We really had a wonderful walk - in total it took us just over one hour to do the loop but that’s because we took loads of photos of the springs and reflections and kept stopping to listen to the birds singing. We were mesmerised by the fantails displaying their tails and swooping past us.
You do need to try to visit on a sunny day if possible as this is such a pretty spot. If it’s been raining then the ground will be slippery. There is a small area for refreshments and ice cream freezer in the club house nearby where you parked.
* Before you go check on the opening days/times. We visited April (Easter hols) and it was open Thurs-Sun 9am-4pm.

Hamurana Springs is STUNNING!!!! We were unsure at it costing $18 but it was definitely worth it. Incredibly clear water, gorgeous redwood trees, beautiful colours everywhere you looked. It was a bit of a dreary day that we went but still beautiful. Would highly recommend.

Pleasant short walk with views of some interesting springs. Interesting information boards provided. The river has heaps of bird life. I don’t think it’s worth $18pp but check out Bookme for discounts as this place is worth seeing if you can grab a deal.

Changes in management resulting removal of the free concession for retirees. Previously free, now $8.-. $18.- for others. Totally overpriced for something that once was free to everyone. Then they owners started charging on the pretext that the trail was to be improved. No evidence of this and the trout that used to be plentiful in the river have all disappeared. So much for Maori stewardship of the land! A beautiful place, but should be boycotted until the greed is replaced.

Visited on a Thursday afternoon in February and there was only a few people there. We were greeted by a friendly employee of the golf course. If anyone is confused the enterance is through the club house. If you are visiting with someone with a gold card remember to say as there is a discount. It was brilliant to have such a peaceful walk almost to ourselves. Redwoods and native bush around a loop track following the river with its pretty blue colour filled with ducks and trout. The spring it self was pretty cool and there's historical sign posts. Dancing sands was interesting to witness and we ended our walk sitting watching the ducks. Truly a magical place.

Written 23 April 2018
Check out if you can use a local residents card to get a reduction, the friend we went with was able to in March.

Hi there.
Liked your post and will definitely visit the springs. Do you have any tips on how to get there? Any place to set on the Navigator, for instance...
Thanks!
