The first day we attempted to look inside, it was 4pm, and closed. The next day we did get a look inside, and it is very beautiful to see and free.

I love going to churches, especially services, when I travel in Europe. This church was very very close to my hotel and when I entered, I lucked out because a service was in progress. I joined the service and couldn't figure out which language it was in until I googled some words afterwards (Finnish!) They sang a hymn I know... More

It's a nice church to visit if you're in the neighborhood, but not worth a detour unless you're already there.

Not what you would expect for a Lutheran church, probably because its design was heavily influenced by the German merchants who built it. I think they got their inspiration from that old pub back home in Bavaria: dark wood and beautiful colorful windows.

This old German Church is a wonderful place to visit. In a relaxing setting and free to visit, it has a beautiful interior with excelent stained galss windows and historic organs. In the middle of Gamla Stan, a visit is very recommended

A striking landmark due to the dramatic spire. Worth a few minutes as is centrally located and and free to enter.

The old German Church is known for its music and particularly its organs. Listening to the music in this relatively small (inside) church is quite relaxing and is to be recommended.

Beautiful church and worth a visit. There is a beautiful gold organ and stunning stained glass. They don't charge for entry however I think they should consider a nominal charge to help with the upkeep.

We enjoyed this church mostly because of the amazing artwork everywhere. We also went to an organ concert one evening which was outstanding. Highly recommended.

Some centuries ago that was just a town's border. Now the beautiful church in the heart of Stockholm.

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
