If you don't understand Swedish, why would you go and see a drama?
Taking a backstage tour is another story – you can choose the one conducted in English and learn a lot about this outstanding theatre and its no less remarkable building.

Good for them to give a chance to gain some money to unemployed actors – we had exactly such a guide, a fellow already in his 50s. He was an expert in all those rehearsal classes, various stages – there are 6 of them, as far as I remember.

The guided tours are scheduled on Saturdays, usually at 17.00 – apparently for the group to catch the performance afterwords. They have two groups – in Swedish and in English. Most Swedes speak English without any accent. The visit will make you poorer by 60 SEK, that's about 6 euro, and only 30 SEK for youngsters under 26 years.
There is, however, a special Ingmar Bergman trail – that's 110 SEK – about 11 euro, happens at 16.30 various days, see schedule.
Meeting point – at the main entrance, all gilded, you won't miss it.
You can well purchase online, the schedule is published until the end of the season, that's June. Don't forget to print your tickets. Enjoy :))

Worth visiting just for the outside. It was rehearsal time when we were there so we couldn't go in . Nice bar across the way called Berns.

We visit this theater a couple of times each year. The building is lovely with great decorations, lots of gold and statues. The most famous plays are staged here and they have the most famous actors. All is in Swedish though so for all you foreigners it's enough to check out the lobby etc if you happen to pass by.

I noted this attraction while travelling via Tram #7 from Central Station to the Djurgarden Island. The exteriors are so Dramatic, There are several statues painted in gold and beautiful flowery motiffs on the upper areas of the building.

I plan to stop by here after my visit of the Djurgarden Island to see it more closely and to know if tours inside are available to visitors.

This Art Nouveau building from 1908 is located in a beautiful location at Nybroplan.

Famous artists like Carl Milles and Prince Eugen were involved in making the striking decorations.

The theatre's acting school produced many famous actors and directors, including Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, Bibi Andersson, and Max von Sydow.

Another gorgeous building highlighting the arts. We only drove by it in our bus - would have liked to see the interior as well.

Just returned from a great play at Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm at the main stage. Theater at its best with very good actors and a well worked production. The building is special on the outside and even more so the inside with the main stage, 3 balconies and a beautiful room overlooking Nybroplan where drinks are served during the intermission, The only disadvantage is the language, if you don't know Swedish it is very hard to appreciate the play. We saw "Other Desert Cities - Andra ökenstäder" and fully enjoyed the great acting and also the "twist" in this recently written play.
