Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Birka was one of the few known towns or cities of the Vikings and is on a beautiful island in Lake Malaren. The Vikings traded with much of Eurasia. Recreated Viking vessels and a town built according to experimental archaeologists, in the traditional forms, and with traditional tools is splendid -- as is the museum The boat trip from Stockholm and return takes most of a summer day. One of the best, among the many wonderful things, I experienced in Sweden.

Vast lake with over 1,000 islands, scenic views, lush hiking trails & sandy beaches.
Should not be missed.

If you can bear the freezing temperatures, highly recommend the Winter Tour by Boat. We did the one and half hour tour (ample as my toes felt they had frostbite) which takes on a lovely cruise around the surrounding archipelagos. Wrap-up warm but there is a 3-hour tour (book in advanced) if you feel brave. Hot food and drinks served too (you can also book as part of your ticket price).

We were staying in Stockholm and did the great boat trip called Under the Bridges of Stockholm which takes you from the Baltic through lock gates and into Lake Malaren. The lake is considerably larger than the part we saw on this trip but what we did see from the boat was very interesting as the tour had a running commentary regarding the architectural and natural features on the lakeside. The circular tour shows a large area of Stockholm and features suburban areas off the beaten track as well as the more well known areas.

We liked the trip to Drottningholm and the stroll in the gardens. The Chinese Pavillion and the Palace are quite normal, although nice, if you have already been to the German, Austrian and Portuguese palaces. There was an opera by Mozart at the theatre but we didn't go, we hadn't known about it. The weather was a problem as one time the sun was shining the other it was raining a lot. Nevertheless the banks of the lake are very nice and luxuriant and you can see the people enjoying the water and sports. It's worth having this boatride.

Saw this and the surrounding islands on a boat trip.
Such an interesting way of seeing the area. There appeared to be no pollution, no obnoxious smells, just fresh air ! A wonderful place.

Mälaren is the third biggest lake in Sweden. This one leads to the ocean. Its beautiful, depending, of course, where you go!

Lake Malaren is one of the things that makes Stockholm such a beautiful city. It was lovely and clean. I enjoyed seeing the natives out making the most of it.
