Beautiful place to visit, I did not want to miss it, as I never visited a palace which is actually still in use, it is the King's workplace, and I found it fascinating just for this. The building itself is beautiful, the architecture. Also loved visiting the treasury, the crowns are amazing to see.

I have seen the building only from the outside but I can imagine how majestic has to be inside! I will visit it inside as soon as I have another chance.

This attraction is okay if you are into touring palaces. It is beautiful and historic. There are so many things to do in the city that this would fall waist side in the future for recommendations.

I do not know why the ticket keeps being 160 SEK, when we did not see the entire palace. I guess they were having some sort of maintenance. You could ask at the ticket stand if all rooms are open to visit. I can only write a critique for the 3 rooms we saw, it was not a big deal.... More

I was looking forward to visiting the palace but very disappointed in what we saw. The building is impressive and the guards stand outside. But inside was boring. There was an exhibit of wedding dresses from the Royal family which was ok but apart from the few pieces of jewellery and the treasury there was nothing else to visit. It... More

Located in Gamla Stan on a small island where there are other places within relatively short walking distance which are worth a visit inc the cathedral, old town squared Nobel Museum Most of the royal apartments were closed off when we were there due to an impending state visit by the Canadian prime minister. Nice to visit on a quite... More

We cannot stop raving about this experience! The Swedish Royal Palace is quite a cool site to see that is open to the public. We went one day with our Stockholm Pass and had no trouble getting in. When we first arrived to the palace we were able to see the Changing of the Guard which was super interesting. At... More

The Royal Palace is located in Gamla Stan and part of it is open to public daily. We visited Museum Tre Knonor. Queen Silvia's, Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madelaine's and Sofia's wedding gowns with accessories will been seen until 12 March at the palace. Also a row of rooms were open for the public with family paintings, furniture and decorations.... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
