Neighbourhood: Djurgården & Djurgårdsbrunn
The island of Djurgården and its northern mainland extension, Djurgårdsbrunn, impress with a mix of nature and an abundance of museums, while being located in walking distance to Stockholm’s city center. Djurgården not only invites visitors to take endless walks through a beautiful park landscape without having to leave the city, but also offers an incredible range of entertainment facilities, such as an open air museum which specializes in the Swedish way of life pre-industrialization, the renowned Vasa Museum with its legendary sailing ship, and Sweden’s most famous amusement park Gröna Lund, which is more than a 100 years old.

our friends from Stockholm did us the enormous favour to bring us here. A short ferry ride from the pier in Old Town, a walk past the old fairground, up past charming wooden houses, down a wooded path and up past fields brought us to this amazing place that seems out of time. fantastic lunch that is healthy and delicious, made form ingeedients grown here; lawns and outdoor seating both open and protected by overhangs, and then a walk in the area, which is beautiful and feels like pure countryside. Orchards, horses, fields, bridges over inlets of the Baltic, and then a long, beautiful walk back into town - it was absolutely memorable. A must see and do.

Here you become filled with peace of mind when you get to stay in this lush, fragrant garden.
The store must be visited. I wanted to buy EVERYTHING.
The café and restaurant have only goodies to choose from. Organic and homemade.

We came by this place by accident walking in the park. Beautiful place, great lunch and great sandwiches. The bakery sells delicious baking goods and the store is a fantasy for people who loves gardening. We had wonderful weather and that gave us the possibility to roam the place. If you like gardening, definitely a place to stop by

If you like good food in good surroundings then head off here for lunch and you will not be disappointed. The food is grown on the premises so you know its going to be good. We only had sandwiches and cake but they were so good, I wish we had stayed for dinner ! Its expensive but no more expensive than any other eatery in Stockholm so no complaints. Outside there are tables with comfortable seating and much greenery. The seating area has a pergola with vines growing over it and providing shade and adjacent are the greenhouses where their produce was ripening. Such an idyllic place and only 30 minutes walk from central Stockholm. Not to be missed !

Already in the middle of the 19th century, there were extensive park and garden areas in Djurgården.
In 1982 the Rosendals Garden Foundation was founded to run a commercial garden with the aim to increase interest in gardening. The main purpose is to practice biodynamic agriculture.
Today the garden is a very popular place, especially on sunny days. Besides seeing beautiful blooming plants, you can visit the cafe and shops.

Really fantastic nursery gardens, and an excellent cafe too. So restful and pretty that we stayed for ages longer than we had planned.

We spent a wonderful afternoon at the Rosendals Tradgard (Garden) with my Swedish cousins. Our lunch was delicious -- including the salad consisting of fresh vegetables grown at this garden. There is a spacious playground, making this location an excellent "nice day" choice for those traveling with young children. This is definitely NOT a "tourist destination," as most there seemed to be Stockholm natives, adding to its status as a great way to mingle with the locals.

I don't think I'll ever forget entering through the hedge to the orchard with picnic tables dispersed and people enjoying lunch. The food served in the cafe was delicious and the setting for sharing a day with friends/family or a date was perfect.

The Rosendals Trädgård is a charming little garden outside of the city. It's also great place to visit if your hobby is indeed gardening and planting. There is a shop in one of the greenhouses that sells plants, pots, seeds, etc. to fulfill your inner gardener. There is a rose garden with many different species of roses. As well, there is a café that serves delicious (and pricey) food as grown in the gardens. Get there early if you plan on eating there because it gets very busy during the lunch hours and lines will be long. Right next door is a lovely little gift shop that sells assorted breads, honey, sweet treats, etc. I would like to add that the bread is AMAZING!!! We bought a seeded sourdough bread (whole) and it was the best bread I've had in a long time. It was crusty on the outside and soft, warm and chewy on the inside. We also tried some of the other pastry and pound cakes and they were all delicious. And the girls behind the counter are super nice, patient, and friendly. Also, keep in mind that Rosendals Trädgård is cashless, so don't forget to bring your credit card!
The gardens is about a 25 minute walk from the Vasa Museum. On a beautiful sunny day, this is a wonderful walk along the water. It is completely safe and you will see many locals biking and jogging by. There is no admission fee into Rosendals Trädgård.

The gardens are nothing to look at or see. The castle closes early and is small. It is a little out of the way so just pass on this attraction.

Is this recommended to travel at Easter this year?
Written 26 March 2018
It depends on the weather you are looking for...
It is still cold. Today is sunny but still some snow on the ground (most melted away). It weather is fickle. I grew up in warm weather and like it year round in Sweden regardless but not everyone feels the same.
Personally I think the best time to see Sweden is summer (July August). Swedes are all outdoors, super happy, friendly and in such a good mood bc of the summer.

Would you recommend to visit the garden in November? Thanks
Written 11 October 2017
Probably not but hopefully you might get a better answer from a local guide on here. I would also suggest that you check whether it is open before you decide whether to visit. Only went there on a nice warm day in September but I expect November would be quite cold.

How do I get there from Sodermalm, close to Gamla Stan?
Written 10 September 2017
There are trams or buses that stop at Djurgården. Or you can take the ferry. Either way, you can use your prepaid transportation card, available for for example 24 h of riding. The easiest is to download the (free of chargé) SL app from app store! It will tell you everything in real time.
