Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sergels Torg is a major public square in Stockholm constructed in the 1960s and named after 18th-century sculptor Johan Tobias Sergel, whose workshop was once located north of the square.
The sunken pedestrian plaza with a triangular-colored floor pattern was now more colorful than before.
The most important building next to the square is Kulturhuset, which also harbors the Stockholm City Theatre and Stockholm’s major tourist information center. On the other side is the department store Åhlens City.

Sad how in less than 20 years this went from a symbol of a clean, modern, open Sweden - a symbol of everything that was right about social democracies, to a dirty, loud, scary, symbol of everything that's wrong with corporate global capitalism.

In the day it is cold. An open square. Protests often held here. A large dark glass tower. At night. Colder. An open square. People walking fast across it. A glass tower changes colour. This is all.

The area has lots to offer and I really really liked the glass obelisk that we had a chance to admire both, during the day and during the evening!

Stockholm is a truly beautiful city in most places, but Sergels Torg and most of its surrounding several hundred meters is a horribly ugly place with its many dystopian 1960s brutalism inspired flat boxes of glass and naked concrete that make Soviet Khrushchyovka suburbs feel quaint and cozy in comparison. A place that only arty farty architects can love. At least there are decent places for shopping surrounding it.

If you spend some time in Stockholm as a tourist or are there for business - you more or less can not avoid passing Sergels Torg. It is a monument of bad taste architecture and is populated by the same amount of pigeons as scabby people. In all, not pleasant but not unsafe.

The busiest square in the city, an unpleasant place, in need of some maintenance. Not particularly unsafe, but rather obnoxious, to a large extent due to the people who hang out there. You'll most probably pass through it during your visit, but don't plan to visit it on purpose. The glass obelisk is currently under renovation.

There is a TunnelBana...aka...T-Bana or FREE subway tour beginning @ Sergels Torg in Stockholm. I recall everyone meets near the turnstiles underground @ 2 or 3 pm. To participate, make sure you already have purchased a mass transit pass or day ticket.
Just look for a bunch of lost looking individuals grouping together around an individual wearing a T-Bana reflective vest etc. When boarding the train, everyone is instructed to use the center cars. As not to cause a bother to the local commuters etc. I found the tour very interesting, w/the guide pointing out the art work that's found at the various underground stations. It's very impressive, and super clean.
The tour ends at Opera House T-Bana. Don't forget to ask the guide how to get to the mall of Scandinavia in Solna via the subway. The stop I was told is just across the street from the mall.

When staying in Norrmalm or going shopping in this area, one will almost definitely pass by Sergels Torg, considered to be the economic and political center of all Stockholm. Named after a neoclassical 18th century sculptor, who created for example the statue of Gustav III in front of the Royal Palace, the whole square looks like an incongruous patchwork from the 1970's, not one of the most glorious periods in architecture
Surrounded by functionist highrise and on its southern side by the 'Kulturhuset', a big concrete wall with a glass facade it has a sunken pedestrian plaza in the middle with a black-and-white triangular pattern on the floor. The street level is mainly left to the car traffic. As a decorative element a steel and glass obelisk has been put up in the middle of an elliptic fountain - quite nice at night, when it glows in different colours.
A lot of work was going on in summer 2018, when I visited, with cranes everywhere. but it was not a place, where I felt like lingering, when there are so many beautiful spots to go to in attractive Stockholm.

It’s a got place to start your shopping trip - from here you can get anywhere nice in Stockholm in 5-10 minutes. Go north by Sergelgatan or Drottninggatan or head south and you’ll be in Gamla Stan in no time!
