Karlsad cathedral was built in 1730. This makes it the oldest standing structure in this city founded in 1584. Sadly it has been damaged in the big cityfire of 1865. The two votive ship models hanging in the transept of Domkyrkan are authentically Scandinavian. I loved this beautiful church, from its splendid choral and organ music to the friendly, well-informed and respectful young guides who took me and a German visitor up six flights of stairs to the bell tower with its impressive view of Karlstad. Relatively recent, consecrated in 1730 (the earlier cathedrals burnt down). Really light and beautiful inside, very inviting, with one of the biggest organs in Sweden. Definitely worth visiting. In the summer, the tower is open to visitors.
