Trollhättan offers an amazing perspective on Sweden's transport history with different generations of lock systems at this important part of the Göta Canal dating from 1800 until the present time. The extensive surrounding area has a number of walks from which boats can be seen navigating through the modern staircase locks, including seagoing freighters taking cargo between the Skagerrak and... Beautiful walks for everybody. You can stroll around easy paths along the Canal or walk through Woods.

It was raining during our visit so we drove around, stopped at the locks, the power station and up the road a look out platform, the view from the platform was great to see the overall picture of the area and how it was built and developed. Considering the history of the canal it made for an impressive visit.

Anytime this is a great walk (not in the rain). Take notice of the sculpture and the buildings. Check the power station if it is open.

I went to see the locks, but at the end the whole canal was a great surprise. Nice views and photo opportunities along it. Very impressive locks.

Doing the walk after visiting the free to enter museum is a worthwhile experience as part of a day out to Trollhattan. The museum has a 15 mins video in Swedish, English or German. I think the museum is easy to miss by visitors but don't! its just a short walk from the top of the newest canal. The walk... More
