In the end of the main street in Gothenburg you will find this magnificent square. The highlight is the very big statue of Poseidon. Here you can look out to the town.

If you are visiting Goteborg, you must visit Gotaplatsen. With a great view of Avenyn as well as a number of statues, museums and a concert hall, you feel the heartbeat of the city, no matter the time of year.

The square itself is nothing special and the statute in the middle although emblematic is not that nice but this is a good place to start a stroll through the central avenue and enjoy a very relaxed city!

This square, at the end of the boulevard locals call ‘Avenyn’, is a good place to spend a rainy day. It is surrounded by the Gothenburg Museum of Art, also housing the Hasselblad Center, the Konsthall (1923), the City Theatre (1934), the Concert Hall (1935),...More

Based on my understanding after a few days here, Gotaplatsen, along with Kungsportsplaten, appear to be the main areas where the restaurants, theatres, and shops are. 1 of the most famous landmark, the Poseidon Fountain, is located here, along with a museum of arts.

Very nice area, all theaters and cinemas around. It is also near the library which is very nice, if the weather is nice you can grab your book and sit out to the terrace.
