In the nightless nights of the Finnish summer, in pure silence - far from busy city lives - enjoying the safeness, clean climate and clean waters, river Koitajoki and lake Koitere offer great opportunities for both short and longer canoeing trips. Diverse nature in Ilomantsi range from pine-clad esker ridges to bald swamp. These waters have had important role for our farther and generations before him, by providing fish to eat and a mean to transfer wood and other big items, before the roads, trains and trucks existed in this rural area. Now these waters offer wilderness and quiet environment for visitors to be with nature. Both Koitere and Koitajoki are suitable even for the more inexperienced paddlers, and are also perfect for fishing.

It was a great trip. Many thanks to Terhi and Tom.
We were three friends and rented kayaks and a tent. The support and the material was just great. Also, our guide Tom was a cool guy who showed us many interesting things like what berries and mushrooms we could pick and showed us the important and dangerous places on the maps.

We had a great experience with Päivi, Petri and Pirkko, the faces behind KoiHu Adventures. The team took care of us very well and guided us wonderfully through the nature of Eastern Finnland. Also, we absolutely loved the landscapes we saw. Highly recommended!
Our background: we are two friends from Germany and have been paddling on lakes in Sweden for the past two years. This year we decided to try something new: new country, new territory. So we were browsing the internet for an organization to assist us with a kayak tour through Finnland, preferrably on a river rather than a lake. We were looking to rent kayaks and get some assistance with the tour and transportation.
We ended up on the website of this outdoor adventure company and felt like it's a good partner for the trip. We were proven to be right!
Päivi helped us plan a great 10-day paddling trip starting on a small part of the Koitajoki river, continuing on the wider parts and ending up on lake Koitere. The landscape was very diverse, including forests, lakes, swamps and more! Overall, the paddling conditions are suitable for anyone. There are a few currents, but nothing too difficult to be afraid of. We spent the last night in a small cabin with a sauna.
Personally, we go on these kayak trips to enjoy nature, camp outside and to fish. So we are not too keen to paddle in white waters or anything like that. We did lots of fishing for our dinner- very successfully. We ate fresh fish almost every night.
Petri took care of any transportation with the kayaks. Very reliable, also on short notice.
Pirkko prepared the cabin for us that we stayed in during the last night, including a spectacular and plentiful dinner, the sauna and a few beers. Just what we needed after the camping and paddling. The cabin has everything you need and is arranged with love to the detail. Very cosy inside, big terrace and a BBQ.
It's easy to reach KoiHu Adventures. Once you're in Helsinki you can either fly or take the train to Joensuu. Train tickets are cheap if you book early. You can arrange an airport or train station pickup. That worked very well! Also, the team will take you to grocery shops as needed before the tour. So all you really need to bring is some basic camping equipment. Buy food locally and the rest will be taken care of by KoiHu.
Overall, we highly recommend KoiHu to anybody keen to experience nature. They will be a reliable partner to you and enable you to paddle through the landscapes of Eastern Finnland.

We, a familiy of four enjoyed our paddling trip with KoiHu Adventures very much.Our tour was organised perfectly: the owners answered every question we had in advance and searched the best route for us. During our tour they were always available on the phone.
We didn´t care much that it was windy and rainy on some days as the nature was still so beautiful! The rest of the time we got to enjoy much sunshine and warm temperatures.
Suming up, we recomend KoiHu Adventures to everybody how wants to experience unforgettable vacations in the breathtaking nature of East Karrelia!

Koihu adventures povided great support from the very first contact to the end of our trip. They suggested the best routes for us - based on our preferences and knowledge. We always felt save and supported during our 10 day kajak trip trough the finish wilderness.
Even if the plans are changing due to weather conditions, Koihu adventures always tired to make everything possible to ensure a geat experience.
The finish landscape is simply outstanding. Best kajaking experience we had so far!

I made a 1 week trip, all alone.
KoiHu provided a very, very awesome support! They gave me a very accurate Map with drawn pathways to travel, weather forecast and good advice.
Will do it again some day!

I booked very spontaneously a 3-day kayaking trip via mail. Although it was Friday evening I got a response from Päivi immediately.
After a short phone call everything was planned for starting the trip the next day at noon.
Since I already made sea kayaking and white water kayaking trips I didn’t need an introduction to kayaking. I've planned my trip with advice from Pirkko.
Solitude and landscape were phenomenal.
I was also very satisfied with the kayak (Carolina 14) I got. More than enough space for my equipment and very safe.
Organisation (car transfer etc.) were perfect. Everything worked out very smoothly.
Päivi and Pirkko were both very friendly and helpful.
I can highly recommend KoiHu Adventures.
