Travel time January 2024, public holiday (01/01), 12km tour:
Despite the cold, it was a wonderful tour, especially since the landscape looks absolutely magical in these temperatures (up to -30 degrees)!
We were traveling with our two sons (6 and 3 years old). In these temperatures, I can only recommend that everyone trust the staff when choosing clothing (loaning additional clothing on top of that) and follow them! If you wear too much, you should be happy that you wore too much and not too little! If an item on the program such as the stop at a hut is canceled due to the cold, then this is only for the safety of the guests. We thought the tour was super organized! The owner in particular took great care of the children's well-being!!!
PS: It was our 2nd tour with Hetta Huskies after 9 years!
We wish Hetta Huskies every success! See you soon.

We did a 6km husky ride (arranged via Tui) and we booked an additional 20km ride and an evening aurora snowshoe trek- both trips we took with our guide Tim. Even though we didn’t see the aurora that night, it was an amazing hike in the dark up to Jyppyrä Campfire Hut.
Hetta Huskies was a highlight of our trip. It’s a small operated husky farm with few employees (be patient with email response time). It was so fun to get to also help a bit on the farm (placing new bedding in the dog houses, walking the oldies, putting away the dogs after a run). Help out if you can- they work mostly with volunteers so I think they appreciate the help.
Our guide Tim was fantastic and gave lots of information about flora and fauna in the area. He’s experienced and a fun guide to have.
Thank you Hetta Huskies! A trip we will never forget!

We did a 5 day tour during winter - it was physically demanding but the experience of Arctic environment in winter conditions was so worth the hard work. The dogs were phenomenal athletes and the guides were very patient and passionate about their work.

While some aspects of the trip could be better organised, overall we have had an incredible time and bonded well with other participants. I think most of us caught the mushing bug and will return very soon!

Highly recommend doing a longer tour if you enjoy some physical challenge and the cold; but you will be rewarded with an experience that you’d cherish for a very very long time.

We are frustated about this experience because we had to run and push our sled all the time to help our tired dogs while all the other sleds never did that. Then we learned that our dogs was tired because they had a 40km run the night before we took them at noon. Why putting dogs that have already ran 40km while you have more than 200 dogs ? I have videos of the poor tired dogs and we did all we could to help them run.
We asked if it was possible to change to dogs or to change the people inside the sled with another people to enjoy the ride as well as the others but the team didn’t try to make us have a better experience.

We were a team of 5 people. One of us had the chance to be the first sled and had a super experience. The 4 of us were the two last one of the trail. Our friends, who was the very last sled, was always braking while us, with the two very tired dogs that had run 40km before, were always running and pushing. There was not a time where we could not push our sled and enjoy the ride. All the sleds in front of us pushed or run only on climb.

At the end of the activity we had a conversation to explain what happened to us and try to understand why we couldn’t change the sled to have a better experience, they told us that they try to organize the dog and people with approximately our weight like they are ranking from heavy people first in line and lighter people back in line but actually they chose the order when they saw us and decided the order of the sled by looking at us from left to right. They never asked for our weight at all.
Then they said that it’s always french people that ... We were only trying to understand and have a conversation like civilised people to let them know that it could have be a better experience for us.

What is really disappointed is that during the activity they never tried to find a solution to make everybody enjoy the ride. Like we could have change sled with another people without changing the dogs but they said they only do that when the trail is above 20km.

In a team of 5 people, only one was very happy with Hetta Huskies.

I booked this family agency and drive for two hours because I didn’t want to have a touristic agency and I am very disappointed about our experience…

Hi there I am sorry that you feel like your experience could have been better. That is not what we want. We want everyone to have the time of their lives. Having said that, we do not feel like pushing to help your dogs or breaking because you are lighter than those on the sleighs ahead of you should make the experience sub-optimal. We hope that once we have given driving instructions, clients understand that dogs are animals and not machines and that balancing the speeds of the sleighs (carrying very different sizes of people) within the group to make every sleigh move at exactly the same speed is pretty much impossible. We always judge the relative weights within the overall group by looking at people once they arrive since we never know who is going to want to be in a sleigh with whom in the larger family groups. I cannot think of another way that we could do that? We plan stronger teams at the front (and allocate heavier people to those) and weaker teams at the back (and allocate smaller people to those). This is the best way we have found of keeping the group together. (Incidentally, you also seemed to be confused as to why some teams had 4 dogs and some teams 5, and thought that that potentially contributed to the different speeds - but we tried to explain that that is based on the normal speed, strength and grumpiness factor of the dogs in each team and that we can't put 5 fast dogs in one team and 5 slow in the next). In the driving instructions we emphasise that the tour is a journey and not a race and that we will all come back together irrespective of the relative speeds within the group. Most people understand that they will, therefore, likely need to either push or break (or both at different times) depending on whether their sleigh is slower or faster than the sleigh in front. It is possible that we failed to emphasise this point in your driving instructions despite allocating an extra guide to your group because of the challenges some of your family had with English. We are always aware that when we have to translate, the driving instructions take twice as long for everyone else, so we probably only said the key points once, whereas normally we repeat them two or three times. The shorter the tour is, the less likely we are to try to move dogs or people around since you cannot just put dog X with dog A, B or C - it involves careful thought and when we move dogs around, it often just pushes the relative speed issue elsewhere within the group so unless there is a major issue, we probably won't play with things much since every time we stop and start, the dogs get impatient and things go wrong and this, then, has a knock-on detrimental effort to the whole tour. If, of course, there is an extreme difference in the speeds, or clients do not look physically capable of working with their team as a musher, or it is a problem with one of the front teams which is impacting all of the teams behind, (as was the case here after about 3km) then the guides will try their best to fix the situation. But pushing a bit or breaking a bit to work with their team is just part of the experience so I guess that Anika just didn't really understand that to you it was a super big deal. I think the less experienced guides tend to try to swap dogs more (usually without positive impact) so to be honest, I think that Anika probably did the right thing in only making one key swap. When she returned from the tour she was super happy with how well it had gone and how there had been no real issues - and then super bummed when you did not feel the same way. Nevertheless, I am sorry you feel like the experience could have been better.

Its way too commercial! Traveling with two toddlers, we were hoping for a more intimate experience but ended up with a huge group (despite calling a day before wherein they confirmed it will be a small group). Be mindful that a bus full of tourists can sign up at the last moment too so if you are expecting a fun trip with children, you can be in for a surprise. Also, we booked the safari of 14:30 hours (Dec) but it was totally dark outside by then. So one is riding in the sleigh in total darkness without any view of the landscape and the only things visible are the headlamps of other riders. In my opinion one should only sign up for a safari between 10-2pm during winters when there is day light especially if you are traveling with kids. As a responsible business, they should not recommend this slot (post 2pm) for families with young kids but I guess business sense prevails over transparency. Almost all the kids we saw who went on this safari came back crying as it was too dark and too cold for them. After the safari one had an option of going to their warm cabin with a fireplace wherein they served berry juice and cookies which was the only saving grace of this disappointing experience!

I booked a 8 day Husky safari and payed €800 deposit, but sadly has to cancel 5 months (!) before the trip due to personal circumstances. According to the terms and conditions in my email, if you cancel 4 months before the trip, there is no penalty. That is simply not true, or they don't care about that. For 5 weeks I've been sending several emails - there is simply NO REPLY whatsoever! No confirmation email, no reply to my repeated question regarding my deposit. I understand you're busy, but you're a business too, and you're dealing with real people, and you don't stick to your own terms and conditions. I feel taken advantage of, and it's incredibly rude behaviour. I would warn everyone to NOT book with Hetta Huskies.

My first 30 km Husky sledding experience in Arctic circle.

Spent the entire day with Hetta Huskies - An award-winning sleddog entity which is also part of CAPE Lapland: Finland's Centre for Arctic and Polar Exploration.

The welfare of every single Husky is tracked including the number of km they run a day and every Husky is taken care off till they passed on naturally.

This is a great experience as technically you get to pick up your team members (Husky) from their kennel, harness them according to their colour code ( an indication of their build and ability to be the lead twin dog and leach them to your sled. You will also get an opportunity to outfit your own sled. An average built Husky runs about 60 to 70 km per day and Hetta Huskies has a regime of progressive training for these dogs. Summer are complete holidays for these Huskies.

Pls do support their work if you are in Enontekiö. You can also book a 5 days Husky expedition into the Arctic Tundra too.

Another tick off my bucket list today

Went as a guided party for the Husky experience. I love animals and was concerned that they would just be 'working dogs' and used as such but was amazed at the love and care they get. It really is pushed that although we are 'paying customers', the dogs are the important ones and rightly so. We had a chance to pet those that wanted the attention (there were plenty), talked about how the place operates along with the amazing adoption program and then got to experience and drive a husky sledge ride. WOW!!! Have to say that was the most amazing experience of our break and left in awe of the dogs power and energy.. I would happily return to Finland just to experience that again. Thank you.

We did two tours a 6k and 20k with Hetta Huskies and were extremely happy afterwards. Carla is a great guide who visibly loves the dogs. The dogs are well taken care of and seem very happy. They gave us information about the dogs and their life in the arctic and they all know them 'personally' which is quit impressive considering they have 182 dogs. We had a wonderful time!

Very clarified event, without being able to leash or lead the dogs themselves. German translation of Chalotta was very good and friendly. The in German mail traffic, Anika, was very helpful and friendly. The boss was very distant and aloof and businesslike, but also competent. If you don’t want to do anything, except sledging, for a lot of money (somewhere cheaper), this is the place for you.
