Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is difficult to put into words just how we felt to stay here albeit for a short while.
The lake is simply stunning and to watch the sun go down over it is , well , quite mesmeric.
There is also a river boat trip that you can take and whilst I didn't go on it myself my wife did and found it very enjoyable. The walk to the top of Ukko Island is a must.
Would love to visit again one day. We are sure a visit in winter would be as equally rewarding but in an entirely different way.

Lake Inari is beautiful with some fantastic walks in the area. The Lake cruise is also worth doing (22 euros each) but you get a wonderful view of the lake

If you're looking for a beautiful and peaceful destination for kayaking/boating/fishing in Lapland look no further. There are over 3000 islands in this huge lake and most of them are totally uninhabited. There are many free well equipped camping areas to choose from. You can sleep in the wilderness cabins but it's better to have you own tent too. The lake is also great for fishing and with some effort it is possible to eat fresh fish every night. There's also a cool ice cave on the island called "Korkia Maura". The icy floor of the cave has been frozen for over 500 years. This cave alone is a sight worth visiting. Just remember that this lake can turn it's beautiful mirror surface into a sea of rough dwelling waves in no time.

Cruising with Inari III boat in lake Inari is the most boring cruise like ever! It lasted totally 3 hours, mostly due to terribly slow boat, only 6 knots! 20 min. in the destination, just walk up to the hill (frankly speaking, nothing special to see) and then the same slow boat trip back. What a waste of time!

When in Northern Lapland you must take the 3h cruise on lake Inari.
This cruise is very well organised and great value for money.
There is drinks and food on board and a toilet.
Weather permitting you can walk on the sacred island in the middle of the lake.
A must-do event.

Me and my family visited this place in December 2016, It's a wonderful place and best location to view the wonderful aurora. We hunted from Rovaniemi to Saariselka and at last we managed to meet with this amazing aurora at lake inari. We also enjoyed the freezing cold weather, It was like staying in a freezer! Like this place so much!

Lake was frozen over when I was in Finland. We went there two nights for aurora hunting and got an absolutely stunning display of northern lights. One of my favourite places in Lapland!

The positive is that Lake Inari is the second biggest of Finland's many lakes and therefore worth visiting. That's it.
We chose to explore it on the cruise boat Inari 111 and that was a mistake. Talk about dragging minutes in hours. This trip is so so slow and basically goes to one sacred island where it remains for 20 minutes or so while you ascend steps to the top for a photo opportunity. It is then slowly back to Inari.
When the cruise commences there is no welcome and the skipper did not utter a word the entire trip. The commentary is via a recording in several languages together with a printed version. There is no competition to this cruise and it shows in the complacent attitude of all concerned with it.
Maybe winter is a better season for a visit.

This lake is very big and, during sub zero temperatures, can be walked on. The forests around provides good hiking, but the actual lake itself is great for a stroll.
Quite often, snowmobiles would glide in and given the large surface area, you can see how much fun it is!

The lake is also called the Sámi sea due to its vastness - 100km accross! We visited in winter when the lake was frozen. Flying to Ukko's Island by snowmobile sled was unforgettable. The view from the island is magical with the sun glistening At night the vast snowy plains reflect the light again spectacular.

Hello, we want to visit there in mid November, is it possible to do ice fishing?
Written 12 September 2018
Hello,
Is it possible to self-tour Lake Inari either by foot or some other method (driving the outskirts) in order to visit both the Wilderness Church and Ukko's Rock? Or is the only way to visit these sites by taking a snowmobile tour? If the latter is accurate, are there any recommendations for tour guides?
Thanks, Laura

I'm sorry but we only went across it on snowmobile. We saw others on the lake but all had snowmobiles. Its a huge lake so not sure how else you would get to the church. We were only there for 4 days and had activities every day and evening so didn't really explore.
