First of all, I have to say that this experience is a bit expensive with 125€ per person. For that price, the guide picks you up at your stay in a van for up to 8 people (we were only 4 that night which was great) and the tour goes 2-4 h depending on the appearance of the northern lights.
BUT: our guide was super nice and friendly all the time and he had a great camera. We went to 4 different places to see the northern lights and the guide knows a lot of great places (there was almost no light pollution and you could even see the milky way!). In the end we saw the most amazing northern light I've ever seen and it lasted for almost a full hour, way better than everything I've seen on TV before.
The guide is super enthusiastic and it was about 11 pm when we saw the light and he made a lot of great pictures of us and of the lights themselves even that late and under extreme conditions, -27°C that day. He shares them afterwards online. There is also space in the trunk in case you have some equipment yourselves.
I did the picture with standard settings on my phone, that's why it is so blurry. In real life it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen!
SUMMARY:
It's expensive, but if you want to have a unique experience seeing the lights, go for that tour, it's totally worth it and I would go again.

We were recommended this company by Guesthouse Husky - the accommodation we stayed in in Ivalo.
Myself and my mother ended up going on a snowmobile tour with the company owner's wife, Kaisu. She came and picked us up in a very comfortable van and drove us to the start. Kaisu was really lovely from the off. Helpful and very kind. We thoroughly enjoyed her company.
We shared one snowmobile which was comfortable and easy to drive. Kaisu gave us instructions and provided us with snowsuits, boots, snoods, gloves etc.
Kaisu took us through winding forest trails and along frozen rivers. It was magical. Truly untouched landscapes which were a lot of fun to run through. Kaisu was very attentive and looked after us on the trails very well. She helped us when we got a little stuck in some fresh powder going up the hill and again when we got stuck on the same hill coming back.
We were lucky enough to see two lots of reindeer on the way through. Kaisu took photos for us and emailed them to us later which was really nice.
I would recommend this excursion with this company specifically to anyone in Lapland wanting a fun day out.

We did a snowmobile safari in the woods with Kari and it was awesome! He showed us different spots, we stopped several times to take pictures and we also went to a frozen lake. He even brought some tea and biscuits so that we could eat them surrounded by nature.
Moreover, we forgot a phone in the pocket of the overall and Kari was so kind that he brought it to our hotel.
To sum up, the snowmobile safari was a wonderful experience that we'll always remember!
Thank you Kari!

We had the King crab Safari with them and everything was great. To start with the very short notice booking I made two days before the trip - that was no problem for them. I was promised to get an offer and they sent it in few hours, I confirmed and we agreed pickup time. All communication was prompt, even it was made during the weekend. We were picked right on time from our lovely guide Kaisu in a car- all for our family of three. She was very knowledgeable and told us a lot for the area we were traveling. When we arrived she showed us around the Snow hotel Kirkenes as well. The king crab fishing is run by the hotel, so I made separate review for them. When we finished Kaisu drove us back to Kakslauttanen and we had an extra for the same price Aurora watching -at least five on the road from Norway to Finland.
It was one of a kind experience I highly recommend, and this are no empty compliments, because I had very disappointing tour with other local company, so I can make the difference.

We booked a snowbile tour. It was amazing! Good explanation about the snowmobile. We could stop to make pictures and our guide Kaisu brought tea and home made cookies which we enjoyed with a stunning view! The clothes we got were very warm. She told us nice stories about Senner dogs who hunt birds. It was a great experience!

We went aurora hunting with mr Kari on Feb 29th 2020. First stop at Ukonjärvi lake was a bit disappointing due to cloud coverage. Mr Kari was not very happy either and decided to go further north, way past Inari. There we found a location with clear sky and a fantastic display of a very active aurora which lasted almost an hour before clouds started appear again.

We’ve booked snowmobile, husky sleigh rides, and aurora hunting with Ivalo Trek. All experiences are simply amazing! Kari and Kaisu were so very kind and helpful! During the snowmobile trip, Kari took us to different terrains, we’ve enjoyed beautiful views! The husky sleigh rides were also so much fun! As for the northern lights hunt, they really know when and where to go! And when they took us for hunting the northern lights, they were well prepared for the group so that we could also enjoy ourselves while waiting.

Really wonderful experience! We were lucky that we could change the date for our trip, according to the forecast of cloud coverage, so we had the only real clear skies nights within the three days that we were in Ivalo. We got to see the aurora in our first stop and got nice pictures from Mr. Kari, thanks a lot! He was also very patient and flexible in looking for other places where the aurora could be more visible. Unfortunately, the aurora was not too active and we did not get to see much more activity after our first stop. It was also freezing as the time went by in the night (it reached -20ºC). Nevertheless, it was a unique experience that we will be willing to repeat with Mr. Kari if we visit Ivalo again :)

We are planning a trip in November 2021. What are the chances of seeing the northern lights in November? On an average how many nights do you get to see the lights in November?

Hello,
It is hard to forecast because every year is different and it depends on space weather how much and how strong the northern lights we can see.
My experience is that at least in every week it is possible to see the northern lights in Ivalo in November.
Written 13 January 2021
Hello, The first week of April is still dark enough for us to see the Northern Lights.
Written 7 January 2020
There is not enough snow in November to arrange snowmobile safaris.

Hi, I would like to know what is the recommended period to visit Ivalo to catch the northern lights (hopefully a period with more daylight?)
Written 15 May 2019
We went in Feb 2919 and were there for 4 days 3 nights (from Sunday to Wed) as we did the snow mobil and huskie sled ride in the day time then went out to see the northern lights at night. We did not see it and it seems the northern lights appeared the Wed or Thurs before.
You can still see northern lights but frequency lesser these few years as it is not in the peak cycle which follows a 11 yr cycle and the last peak was 2013/2014. It means to increase your chance of seeing it now means you need to stay longer in Ivalo. Then again it means you need to plan other things to do. Even so no guarantee. Also note the full moon thing as well. All the best !

Merci d’avance !
