It’s a must-do experience in Levi! It’s beyond arctic! You will get to know and feel of true nature from arctic. More importantly, you will get really nice photos from your guide. My guide’s name is Meri. She is very kind and took a lot of excellent photos for me. In the activities, you will also have a small lunch in a traditional lappish wooden hut ‘Kota’. It was fantastic! You should do it once in your lifetime.

Our guide, Oren, is AWESOME. He did a great job making our night unforgettable although the weather was not good for seeing the northern lights. We understand that this is something neither Oren or the company can control, but Oren still gave his best to provide a wonderful experience.

We had a really great experience on our northern lights photography trip on Monday 20th November. Our guide Ryan was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and definitely went the extra mile to make sure we got the most out of our trip. It was an exceptionally cold night at -25 so we kitted up in overalls, socks and boots provided by Beyond Arctic and then drove to a spot by a frozen lake about 30 minutes away from the city. As soon as we arrived we saw the northern lights. Ryan set up his camera and helped others set up theirs and then he took plenty of photos of everyone in the group.
There was a tipi at this location and Ryan got a fire going inside to keep us warm, there were sausages provided which were grilled on the fire and we were happy that there was a vegan option even without us asking for it beforehand so that was a nice surprise. The van was kept running at all times as well so we could warm up inside there if it was too cold even in the tipi.
We waited another 3 or so hours until around midnight to try to see the northern lights again, sadly there was nothing but then just as we were packing up to leave they were back! Ryan ran back to the frozen lake and we all followed, he took more photos of us and was more than happy to stay out for longer even though it should have been the end of the tour, which we really appreciated as it felt like he truly wanted us to enjoy the experience. By the time we arrived back at our hotel it was around 01.30am, we were grateful for the extra time enjoying the northern lights at the end.
We’re still waiting for the photos to be sent to us (which understandably may take some time to go through and edit); for us this trip is extra special as we got engaged the next day and so we really can’t wait to have plenty of photos to look at to remember this magical time!

Marcus tried his best to make sure we get something out of this trip. We didn’t get to see strong northern lights but the trip is entertaining if this is your first time.

The service was well prepared and equipped. Oren, our guide, was super professional, educating and helpful. Oren was also super flexible taking us to a variety of locations and changing plans when great photo opportunities presented themselves. He also made sure to care for those who struggled with the cold.

I was part of the tour that took place on November 17th, with Emilia as tour guide. Arguably, this tour was the biggest reason we came to Finland. As I guess many others did as well, I decided for this company based on how positive the reviews were.

However, we are deeply disappointed with our experience with Beyond Arctic. One of the main reasons I decided for this company & tour was because, according to them, they go the extra mile in order to make the most of the experience. Sadly, this was not the case.

We started at a spot close to Rovaniemi to watch an aurora that the guide deemed as "rather low". She took a couple of pics of us, and when the aurora was starting to get better there, she told us we needed to go somewhere else because there was a guide from another company. We then went somewhere else that was supposedly more "promising". The aurora there was even weaker, and she took only one more pic of us.

We were told we may go somewhere else (a 3rd spot), but that never happened. It was a very cold night, so I can understand that the guide would want to head home. However, it was still disappointing.

A few days later, Beyond Arctic sent us the pictures. We got the pictures of the aurora (landscape pictures, which were nice & decent), one group picture at the 1st spot and a final picture at the 2nd spot.

The first picture (group picture) was not well taken, because our bodies were basically covering up the parts where the aurora was the most intense... The second picture was blurry (attached in the review so that potential customers can judge for themselves)...

These are mistakes that should have been prevented. This is as simple as telling: "move a bit to the right/left" or "the pic is blurry, let's take another one".

However, this just shows a total lack of interest on the guide's side. In my humble opinion, I think she should have made sure that, at least, we could all get ONE decent picture.

I do not think this is asking for a lot, given that we paid 125€ each and came from very far to take this tour.

*I emailed Beyond Arctic to send me all the pics taken by the guide and they emailed me 2 more pics. Unfortunately, they were not any better. For a party of 2 people, 5 pics were taken in total. For a photography tour, not many pictures are taken...

Given the positive reviews, I guess this all depends on being "lucky" and being led by a guide that wants to perform a good job. Sadly, this was not our case and we really regret not booking another option at Rovaniemi.

Dear José, thank you for taking the time to review your tour. We are sorry to hear you were not happy with the service and the delivered photographs, or the actions of your tour guide and photographer. Emilia has a lot of experience on guiding and photographing the Discover the Northern Lights tours. Looking at the photos captured during the tour, the assessment was correct. The auroras were low on the horizon, and Emilia wanted to make sure everyone on the tour could have a photo of themselves and the Northern Lights, if they wanted and before the auroras faded again. The auroras are a natural phenomenon, and while we can look at the scientific data, prediction models and solar activity forecasts (and we use all of these to help plan our tours), there is only so much we can do if the lights do not become highly active. We acknowledge your feedback that you were not shown the photos or asked if you were happy with the photos your guide was producing. However, there is nothing technically wrong with the photos. The subject of the photos (the people) is very well in focus, and only the background is out of focus (as it should be). This out-of-focus of the background is called bokeh and is an inevitable characteristic of photography using a wide-angle lens with a large aperture. In night photography, out-of-focus areas will always be present, when photographing people. Many of our customers are very happy to have their photo taken with the northern lights in the background. We are sorry to hear you were not pleased with the style or the composition of the photos. It’s important to note the difference between a photography tour and a photo shoot. We will not always be able to deliver many different photos, poses or angles for every participant, and because of this, we do not promise this type of delivery. In the description of the tour and under what is included in the price, we write “A few photos from the tour sent to you afterwards”. We have delivered on this promise, and as you mention, also included photos of the auroras on their own. We do not agree in your assessment that the guide does not show interest in her work. Emilia is a dedicated team member and highly valued by colleagues and customers. However, there is always room for improvement and feedback on our performance is always welcome, as it is now as well. Thank you for the feedback.

At the beginning of the ride, I was not believing that we would be able to see anything, because the sky was overcast, completely covered by clouds.
Luckly our guide was someone really impressive. Extremely polite, explaining everything that we would try to see. During the ride, he gave us a detailed explanation about the aurora borealis, how and why it happens, the whole picture.
He drove us northwest, for more than one hour... By the time he found a place in the middle of the forest, there was the most clear sky ever. Never saw so many stars in my life.
Actually, you have to have a tripod and set your camera in a way to catch the northern lights properly.
After maybe one hour since we arrived there, the magic happened and the lights were dancing in front of us.
It was spectacular, really unbelievable.
I highly recommend this company, and most of all our guide Oren.
Worth every cent that you spend...

We want to thank Markus for going above and beyond during our tour. Weather forecast was unfavorable, but we drove almost to boarders of Sweden and in the end we had 3 stops where we could see the Northern lights. Thanks again!

I cannot begin to even explain how amazing the experience was. Markus is the most amazing guide who knows everything you want to know be it Finnish history, the science behind how the aurora happens, and everything in between! He went above and beyond to ensure we were able to catch the aurora and even when that meant driving to the Swedish border, he was on it! Even on our way back when we spotted it again he would stop to make sure we got the best shots! I am so greatful to him for giving me such an amazing night I won't forget! He takes photos for you to ensure even when your phone isn't up to scratch that you will still have amazing pictures! My photos don't do it justice and i cannot wait to see the ones he got! Thank you Markus for making a dream come true experience!
