Birdwatching and outdoor recreation
Feb 2020
Laajalahti is one of the best bird wetlands within the Helsinki-Espoo-Vantaa metropolis. The nature trail from Villa Elfvik to the Otaniemi bird-watching tower is 2.9 km long.

The best time to visit is April-May when flocks of thousands of migrating birds use the shallow seawater bay as a resting place.

Lovely nature
Jan 2020 • Friends
Much lovely trails and different kind of nature as you walk by. You can walk around the whole bay of Laajalahti if you want to. Along the way there are couple museums and cafees, summertime a wake park and naturally when by water, a sandy beach opposite to nature preserve.

A bit disappointing
Aug 2019 • Couples
While this place is probably nice for bird watching it is not the best for taking a walk. The scenery is not that great and the noise from traffic is a bit disturbing. Better places exist.

Great walks and scenery
Jun 2019 • Family
We walk around here frequently as the walk is ideal for a nice stroll through the Forrest by the coast line. The terrain is flat and well laid out.

There are viewing platforms for more scenic views. Cafe in Villa Elfvik.

Great place for birdwatching
Jul 2018
This reserve has two viewing platforms and a 2.5 km footpath (part of it a boardwalk) connecting the two. The more southerly platform has extensive mudflats in front of it, the northerly one more water. While tides in Helsinki are not very large, something is influencing the amount of mudflats visible. The reed beds hold many songbirds, and further north is an area with woods and more secluded mud areas with different avifauna. The whole area is a very good place for the visiting birder!

Very nice and easy nature walk
May 2018 • Couples
Very nice and easy nature walk easily accessible from many directions with any transport. Easiest way is to drive to Villa Elfvik and start walking there.

Good Birding and Nature Spot
Jun 2017
We took a bus to the outskirts of town and walked through a university grounds to a nature preserve along a section of the bay. We climbed up onto a raised platform to enjoy the view and look for birds. It was gorgeous scenery that the non-birders enjoyed. Soon a local birder showed up with his scope and helped us pick out the birds. He even knew their names in English. We were at the Southern end of the park. The walk to the observation deck was pretty and interesting as well.

Finnish seashore for bird watching and education
May 2016 • Family
I liked to walk along the paths which follow the shoreline and in the near forests. The place is ideal for families and school groups. There exists also nature house called "Villa Elfvik" with exhibition and cafe. The café is normally only open on Sundays like the nature house.

Beautiful bird sanctuary!
Jul 2016 • Couples
Laajalahtis nature reserve gives a good example of a finnish bird ecosystem. Lovely trail inside quiet forest leads to a lovely lakefront. You can find a bird watching tower from here, and observe dozens birds around the tower on the lake and it's swamp like shore. Especially migration periods are special times, but even on normal days you can see swans, ducks and even occassional eagles around the tower.

If you are nearby and love nice hikes in nature or birds, visit this place!

Nature and birds
May 2015 • Family
This place is worth of visit even it is located so near the main road ring I. You will find here culture by old fashion house, inside small nature show room, very nice cafeteria with just home baked buns (check open times) and info-desk for nature things. Outside is short nature track and one longer one which follows the coastline to Otaniemi area. This is one of the best places in Espoo to birdwatching. There is one tower in Elfvik just 150m from the naturehouse. If you are lucky you can see also foxes and white-tailed deers around the rocky hill with small forest part. Personally I visit here several time in year and most of the times I see something delightful.
