This is a must do whilst in Helsinki. The ferry takes around 20 miNs and tickets are 5€ each. You can spend the day walking around the island taking is the beauty of it. There are various different museums to see also and spectacular views.

Getting there by ferry is just as much fun as the site itself! The Museum detailing the history is very informative, well worth watching the film too!

The Island is really nice and has some good sites but during wintertime it's slippery and dirty so I would recommend you to go there during the warmer months. However the ferryride in winter through the ice is great!

If you go in February you find an abandoned island covered in abandoned fortifications and unbelievable views of the frozen Baltic. Very cold though and nothing really open.

If you are looking for a historical atmosphere with beautiful nature, swimming, relaxing and cafe breaks you will love it. Restaurant Valhalla was opened for Helsinki Olympic games in... More

A lot of things were closed there due to it being winter but a good way to spend a few hours away from the crowds of Helsinki. About a 10 minute ferry from the docks. Ferries run all day and most of the night.

Mostly the islend is a nice place to visit during summer months and ir has a couple of nice restarants which are located in Old Army building. Some local Finnish diets can be found from these restaurants
