The old neighborhood of Katajanakka populated by poor and not recommanded people is a nice place today. Walk through the streets, lift up your eyes and see the buildings. Don't forget, in this island, Ouspenski cathedral and the old jail.
Would imagine the area would be even better to explore in summer but was interesting in November as well. Quite a few trendy cafes and restaurants to visit. Enjoyed wandering around and then visiting Upenski cathedral which is a must visit.
Katajanokka is situated in the downtown of Helsinki.
The Katajanokka channel separates it from the mainland. The area by the four connecting bridges is known as Kanavaranta. It is a popular restaurant spot with seafood restaurants and nice summer terraces.
